Rental Availability questions.. or how long do I give this kid to make a decision?

I agree with those who have said he doesn’t want to go. I am not liking this guy. What young healthy male is worried about Covid? And if he really is you probably don’t want your daughter with him.
Well, a male 34 yr old friend of my daughter died of Covid 2 weeks ago. So be careful of remarks like that. He was perfectly healthy prior to he and his wife catching it. And they took correct precautions too.

I am seeing the more popular resorts filling up for some fall dates, so i guess in general how far out is there availability on these less expensive resorts?
Be aware that what shows up through Disney room inventory is different that what members can book with points. They are separate inventories. So, if you see available rooms at BWV on the WDW site, that does not mean they are available for member points.

I also think committing to an expensive vacation with a girlfriend (or boyfriend) 8 months in advance is a big ask. In this situation, think I would rent one room & pay cash for the second, or rent both and allow daughter to invite another friend if her boyfriend doesn't go. I'd definitely hold off on tickets and air until much closer o the trip.
This is a very good idea. If you rent 1 room and pay cash for the other, you will have flexibility.
Or, just do away with the idea of him joining the trip and plan it without him. If it is serious enough, he will be around for future trips.

I don't want to put an owner out by booking then rescinding,

This makes me worry that you aren't very familiar with the process of renting.

If you rent, it probably will be non-refundable.

It's not a matter of changing your mind and feeling badly for the owner because you inconvenienced him/her.
