Ok so i thought about buying again but what is renting about. I will be going to Disney Land
So if some one rented points at 9dollers a point. how do they find out how much they need for there stay? DL hotel or grand villa?

See the [thread=1669863]Considering Renting from a DVC Member?[/thread] thread.

The Disneyland hotels can be booked on reservation points for a lot more than DVC resorts.

You may find that renting DL hotels booked on DVC reservation points is very close to the cost of a cash reservation. This isn't a big savings.

If you really want Disney resort accomodations in Disneyland, consider buying into the VGC. Or, you can opt to pay cash to stay at the DL hotels with one of their deals (currently buy 3 nights get 2 more free).

The VGC will open this November but due to it being the smallest DVC resort by far, it won't be easy to book unless you have it as a home resort.

I think it pays to look at actuals:
7nights @ DLH rack for a premium view room in June is $2,689.25
(2235 plus 15% room tax and $17 per night resort fee (both are waived for stays booked on points)
same stay would be 203 DVC points

you'd have to pay $13 a point or less to save money and make renting a better deal (or be able to get more than 25% discount off rack rate). I think most points rent for about $10-$12, but you can get some bargins at much lower, especially for a DLH stay as some members have points that they can only use at DLR hotels due to one reason or another and are willing to rent them at much lower prices.

Now, that said, the DLR hotel point charts can go up, and many speculate that they will either when the GC Villas open or after DLH completed it's planned refurb. So, I wouldn't take today's analysis and expect it to work for 50years. If you want that guarantee it's best to purchase at VGC.

Note: it's difficult to calculate the above for the VGC as no one knows yet how many VGC members will rent their points and at what price...

You don't actually rent points for any price. What you rent is a reservation that a member made using their points. At no time will you have control over the reservation other than upon checkin. You cannot call Member Services for any reason. So the points are useless to you unless you are a DVC member.

Jade, I wouldn't rent points for DLR unless you wanted to stay at Grand Cal's villas.
