A lot of new members seem to think that the only option for banked points is to use them on your next DVC trip or lose them. There is a third option of turning them over to II. That buys you two more years to use your points. I know it's not at a DVC resort, but it does open up some more possibilities for those who may feel forced to rent their points. I was able to do this when I bought a BWV contract a couple of years ago. I went on the trip this past spring. And I know it's hard to believe but it was all due to Dean's help.

I want to make sure I am understanding what you are saying. The contract I am buying has an April use year. The person I am buying from banked their April 02 points. To use them, I must do so by March 31, 04.

Are you saying that I could deposit them now with II (say tomorrow 6/30/03) and can travel on those points until 6/30/05?

If this is correct, you are right, this would be a nice option that I didn't consider.

That's right. You can deposit your points and then have up to two years to choose where you want to go.

They do it a little different now than a couple of years ago, but I used banked 1999 (could be used originally from 10/99 through 9/00) points for a week at VB in September of 2001. I deposited the week with II and just made the trip to Hilton Head this past spring.

Unless they changed the rules (which I don't think they did) when they went from a deposit of a week, to the point deposit that they do now, you can do this.

To expound a little. What you can do is deposit a unit with II. Then you can use that credit with II to search for an exchange for a week that much be completed within 2 years of the unit you deposit. I'm not sure with the new system how the deposit first will work but the principles should be the same. You can not use it to trade back in to DVC.

There are risks to the systems but it's true that they can be used to extend the life of points. The main risk is that once you deposit you can only search for the exchanges that are at or lower than what you deposit. That means that if you deposit low season, you can't search for high season.
