Rent points from more than one member?

I've begun planning for a longer stay at BCV - 2br -next August. I figure I will a lot of points. Is it possible to rent points from more than one member for one stay. If so, how would this work. I've never rented points before.

Yes, you can rent days of your stay from multiple members and ask them to link the reservations together so you won't have to move during your stay. They can do that at the same time they make the reservation for you- as long as they have the res # for the other reservation(s).

Just post the dates, resort and type of villa you want on the Rent/Trade Board and then modify your request as some of the dates are filled. You may even find someone able to make the entire reservation for you.

Enjoy!

unless you are member points won't do you any good.

you need a reservation.

so you are renting a reservation from members. How long are you staying?

Some members have a bunch of points and might be able to handle it.

otherwise you get as many days from the first rentee as possible - I would start with Sun-thurs (less points than Fri/sat)

Yes, you can but you might be surprised and find someone with enough points for the entire time. You need to be careful if you rent from more that one person. You can not combine points for one night from more than one person's points. Also, you need to ask that the reservations be tied together on their computer so that you do not have to switch villas .

Other than that, sounds like a wonderful vacation.

Another possible way to do it would be to buy into DVC at SSR (150 point minimum), then rent whatever additional points you need from other members for transfer into your new account. Then, once you are doen with your trip, and you (for some odd reason or other) are not completely convinced that you will be happy doing DVC for the next 47 or so years, then list your contract for sale at the Timeshare Store (or one of the other reputable resale agencies). If you'd used such a strategy over the past few years, you would be up money (or nearly so). Of course, by then you will be hooked, so you'll be stuck with your DVC points, and perhaps even contract add-on-itis

Buying into DVC is not an option...DH vetoed that years ago. We will need about 675 points and have not seen many DVC members offering that. I'm kind of hesitant to rent from more than one member...enough anxiety going with one. Any suggestions?

Hmm, that suggestion I made above might actually work. Actual cash outlay would be as follows: downpayment (10%) of $1425, maintenence fees of perhaps $700, and payments on the (assume 10 year) loan would be maybe another $1500 (of which $1000 is mortgage interest and therefore deductible). So total cash outlays are around $4100 in the time leading up to August 2006, but this gives you access to 450 points (1 yr banked, 1 yr borrowed plus current '06 points) which could get you a week and a half in a BCV 2BR.

If you rent the points, assume you need 450 to make it comparable, at $10 a point brings you to cash outlay of $4500; and you would need to pay that all in advance.

Now, note that a stripped 150 point contract is listing for $78 per point, which would bring in more than the balance of a DVC loan that the OP might take out to make this purchase, even after broker's commission.

This is of course a back-of-the-napkin calcuation. But it could work. Any additional points needed for the ressie could be rented and transferred, giving the OP control over the reservation (and not just trusting someone else). It could be a break-even or better proposition if done right using the current sweet incentive. I'd happily volunteer to refer you, KathyG, and so you could get that great discount on DVC purchase. And you could even end up spending less than if you'd just rented from someone else.

Do the math, and see if it might work. Remember, the arguement is that you would sell after the trip and close out the DVC loan, and possibly even end up ahead $$. Buying just the minimum, and having any additional points (675-450= 225 extra) transferred into your account limits your outlay. And smaller contracts sell better anyway. You could tell DH that DVC ownership is just temporary, and point to the very liquid after-market in DVC contracts as your way out after the trip. And if he sees that might actually cost less to own DVC for a year, the plan might actually sell.

Good luck in your figuring (or renting, whatever the case ends up to be)

As others have indicated you can rent from more than one member. I would be hesitant to do so though...only because renting from one member is involved enough. I wouldn't want 2 different sets of terms, 2 contracts, 2 sets of contact information, etc. One of everything is plenty especially if this is your first time renting.

I notice you haven't posted on the rent trade board yet. I suggest you do and the sooner the better. Include as much information as you can: dates, resort, villa size, dedicated vs lock-off and in the case of BCV two queen beds vs a queen and pullout in the second bedroom. State your desire to rent from only one member (this will eliminate some of the "I have 58 points that expire in June" replies). There are some owners, like myself, who have that many points to rent but I no longer post listing my desire to rent points. I choose my rentals by answering posts from families who are looking for points. I select rentals that best suit me: rentals of over 275 points, close to the begining of my use year (June) and within the reservation window of my home resort (OKW). I'm absolutely certain you'll be able to get ALL the points you need from one member. Let the member seek you out...a 675 point rental is a great rental in my book.

I happen to have enough points available for your stay at BCV but since my home resort is OKW I wouldn't be able to reserve until January. Good luck.
