We are going to WDW 3/5-3/12...I booked a cer service that will end up costing about $60 total, round trip. We are also planning on going to Universal/IOA for one day (we're staying at All Star Movies). How much does it cost to get to Universal and back? Or would it be cheaper to just rent a car for the whole week (maybe go to Sea World?) TIA

Going to Universal will cost you 15 dollars per person on the mears shuttle. If you can get a car for cheaper than 15x? +60, I think it would be your best bet even if you take Disney transportation everywhere. It's nice to be able to drive somewhere for dinner or run to the store.

Based on your plans the only reason why you would not rent a car is if you preferred not to drive when on vacation, otherwise IMO you would definitley rent a vehicle.

The one consideration is that the early March timeframe may be more costly than other times for rental vehicles.

Is that quoted Mears price of $15 per person from a Disney resort to Universal each way or round trip?

:confused3

:cool1: That sounds like a deal to me. I thought I was going to have to either pay $65 for a car or forget trying to go. We missed Universal last trip and I really want to go.

Rent the car!!!

We have been to Disney many times and never rented a car till this trip. Wow , it was terrific having it. We have 3 kids (11,7,3) and it was great not having to wait for the bus or carry sleeping kids at the end of the night, or folding up the stroller, carrying all the packages from the day, standing room only at the end of the night, all those stops at different hotels. We did US for two days. By the time you added up the price of transfers to US, plus town car to and from the airport (absolutely refuse to take mears'-too many stops before you can get to your hotel after a long flight, plus the pick up on departure day is scheduled way earlier than your flight) and including tip, it ended up being the same price to rent a minivan for the whole week.

I was worried we would get lost, but the signs are pretty good,& I studied up on an orlando map ahead of time. There was only 2 times we got a little mixed up on which way to go, but that was off-property and really no big deal. US is a straight shot on the freeway for WDW, signs everywhere.

We stayed on site for 7 days and never once got on a Disney bus, that's how much we liked having a car. Parkings free for onsite guests and the parking lots not that much farther from where the buses(from the value's) pick up and drop off

Really check around for good deals, rates change all the time. Look at mousesavers.com for discounts. And sign up the for quick registration program at whatever rental place you choose. Dollar has Fastlane, another has one called Emerald Aisle , can't remember which company, but they each have pre-registration which makes picking/dropping off car real easy. And rent from one of the 5 on-site at the airport, it's really convinient that way.

WOW sounds like a good deal. We are using a service and doing a grocery stop...round trip is 87 but I wonder how good a deal I could find with renting a car. We have three kids too..ages 14, 11 and 6. We would have to have something fairly large to fit the luggage. What company did you use and what size car??

I'm not even considering renting a car. I absolutely hate driving and my sister feels the same way. I commute every day and don't want to have to do it on vacation. I was considering a car service to get to/from Universal. The price seemed pretty steep and I was having trouble justifying the cost. $15 per person is manageable since there are only two of us.
