Have you seen people doing this yet??

Just randomly caught this and am kinda shocked.... I would never think of using my points like this.... Probably b/c I wouldn't want some random person from the internet staying in a room under my membership.... who knows what they would do.

Eeeek....

Disney rents at bcv .
Any difference?

Yeah, but Disney doesn't give my name as the owner of the points.

I would like to know if anyone on DIS has done this. The auction I keep seeing is getting $13 plus per point. Seems worth the trouble if you are not going to use the points.

I don't see how its any different than people renting out their points in general. I'm quite sure that the majority of people who have made deals via the DIS rent/trade board are complete strangers. I know we never knew or met anyone we rented from prior to becoming members. The only difference is a set price vs a bidding price.

Like pmc said - Disney rents out the rooms every day to non-members. It may not be in an owners name, but its still the same property. Mind you I'm not saying this is a good or bad practice - I could care less, I don't think there is that much difference in members and non-members, but that's an entirely different subject.

I conversed with someone who was auctioning off "vacations" on Ebay last year when I was first trying to find out how to rent my excess points.

He told me that he was averaging $15 - 17/pt when he bundled passes into the deal. He always offered Sun - Thur studios at OKW to keep his point count down.

He had 2,000 points and he was doing it as a side business to help pay off the points.

His one big suggestion was to make sure that you got a signed rental agreement from the renter that would hold them to the various rules and regualations that DVC holds us to (Cancellation policy, housekeeping info, etc).

kater..

LOL, KaterBell. i just thought it was kind of funny how you said this... aren't we all "random people from the internet"?

a renter on the DISboards is just as "random" as someone who buys on eBay.

in both cases, the best thing to do is have a clear Rental Contract that both parties sign.

:)

Of course I have seen renting points on the DIS, and while you probably don't know that person very well, at least you know that they are part of the same community as you... if they're here, they probably have a little bit or the same respect as you would for the room.

Someone on ebay, just searching for a "cheap" vacation, may not treat it the same way. Just my opinion.

I don't rent my points out, so that's not an issue for me. :)

I was just posting to see the general concensus.
