Rent a car or not?

Let me preface this by saying every time we have gone to Disney, we have rented a car. We like driving ourselves, doing a grocery run, keeping a change of clothes in the car, eating off site, and locking up valuables after we check out. We had a bad experience with Disney transportation leaving a theme park once (45 minute wait) and nearly missed our Magic Express bus to the airport.

We are going to Disney 2/21-2/25 (5 days). Rentals are expensive ($300+) because it is President's week, Princess Half Marathon and some other huge Orlando conference with 30K attendees.

I have an Emerald Aisle reservation for $181 (made months ago), which I think is high for a 5 day rental. Worth it?? We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside.

Well keep in mind that like you said it President week - schools in the New England states are on winter break-so you will see a lot of kids, the marathon, twirl mania competition is held at Disney. There will also be a lot of race fans at Disney with the Daytona 500 being that week and a lot hotels in Daytona are sold out. THe buses will be packed. We have stayed a number of times during this week and know just how crowded it will be.

Look the Tue before you leave that is when last minute rental rates are released. That is usually when I book my car except for last week when dollar had a great rate for May of $60 for a week!!!
