Can anyone tell me about the bus service at SSR? This will be our first stay there, and we usually rent a car, but thought we wouldn't this time. If the bus service is slow, though, I might reconsider.

Any thoughts?

We had no problems with it and have a rental that we use for off-sight trips and grocery runs.

With that said why not do a rental a few days after you arrive . This way if the Bus is to your liking you can just cancel the rental .If not just walk over and pick it up.

I use the Dollar thats right across the street from SSR and the DTD marketplace bus stop very easy to walk to and get great rates.

We use Budget located in the Double Tree in DTD. Like most rental companies they will pick up and drop off. We never rent a car for the whole trip when staying on site. Buses are great at SSR

We were at SSR for ten days in September and the bus service was the best we had ever had in the past 11 trips to WDW. We never waited long for a bus..the longest wait we had was 20 minutes after MNSSHP.

We were really pleased with it.

Have a great trip!!

When we were there in June, we stayed at the Grandstand and the bus was great. That being said, we considered ourselves lucky because as the bus loaded up for the morning rush, people waiting at the last stop or two were passed by because the bus was full. We were originally staying at SSR next month and my DW had planned on renting a car as a "just in case" but our waitlist came through for BWV so it wont be needed.

Since I haven't been to WDW since 1994, plesae forgive me. Are you saying that there are places to rent cars at Downtown Disney?? That sounds great.
And I see somewhere that DVC members may have free valet parking? Is that at the parks or just the resorts?
Its seems WDW is a whole new world since I've been.

The budget location is in one of the Hotels in DTD. Not in the Marketplace.

You can rent Alamo from the Disney Car Care Center and Dollar from a hotel outside the park next to DTD. Both offer shuttle service. DVC Members get free parking at the parks and free Valet parking at BWV, BCV, VWL, and AKL?

we found the bus service exceptional at SSR (we did rent a car from dollar for outlet & grocery shopping tho :) ).
the flexibility of taking a bus to DTD (marketplace) from other resorts, & just walking a bit to SSR, was great!

hth :yay:

Mot arewihin a block of the DTD marketplace bus stop so it's easy to get to from anywhere in WDW.

Most are at the Hotels located along that street.

Alamo and National are also available at the CCC located next to the TTC and the Dolphin that located near the BW area.

So you have many options to rent from we love taking the ME down and not having to worry about anything at MCO but to get on the bus.

DVC gets Valet at the DVC resorts and then as your staying on-sight all the parks parking is free.

We stayed at SSR in Aug. and found the bus system to be very efficient! we never waited more than 10 min., but mostly didn't have to wait more than a couple. We were in Congress Park, very close to the bus stop and a really short walk to DTD. We found it quicker to walk to DTD bus stop to go to another resort for dining! It was great!:thumbsup2

How often do the resort buses run at DTD? We have a ressie for Kona and would either take bus to MK and then monorail or catch a Poly bus at DTD.
Which do you think would be quicker?

If it were me, I'd probably take the bus from DTD to the Poly and then ride the Monorail to MK. I found not having to worry about the car quite nice!

When we were there in Aug., we never waited longer than 10 min. for a bus anywhere except leaving a couple of the parks late. We went to Beaches & Cream one night (Well, several nights, but who is counting!:rotfl: ) We made a quick jaunt to DTD and caught the bus to Beach Club and then walked to Epcot. We found it very easy to do!

My son and I were at WDW a week before my husband came with the car, so we had to rely on the bus system this time. This was a first for us. When my husband came with the car, my son and I told him we would rather use the bus system, because it seemed quicker and less hassle. We plan on doing this again next year and just getting the car the day or so before we plan on leaving WDW to go elsewhere in Florida.

Staying in Congress Park made it a very quick walk to DTD and the bus stop. We found it very convenient. I don't really understand the people who are always complaining about the "walking distance" to everything at SSR. It was a little bit of a walk to the main pool, but not unpleasant. If we wanted to eat at Artist Palette, we would either walk there and hop on the bus after or get off on the way back from the park, eat , and walk back to our room. If you do a little planning, it's all good! I personally look forward to all the walking we do at WDW, because it is such good excercise!

Have a great time what ever you do!

If you are at resort any bus to MK or Transportation Center and then the monorail to the Polynesian Resort wil be your quickest way to dinner.

Another option is to drive if you have a vehicle.:car:

I second that!!:thumbsup2 I can't wait to explore SSR!!

We had our first trip to SSR over Columbus Day weekend and stayed in the Springs section. That is the last stop the bus makes before heading to the parks. Buses were very quick, only once did the Epcot bus show up and look really full. There was a man at the bus stop who was clocking the times, he spoke to someone on his two-way radio and another Epcot bus showed up pretty quickly, maybe 10 minutes later.
