DH and I just had our bathroom floor redone. The tile guy finished laying all the pieces this afternoon and will grout tomorrow. OMG, it looks fantastic!! Wanna know why?

1. The bathroom USED to be carpeted. Yes...you read that right. Blue-grey dingy nappy carpet...in a bathroom. Wht mental midget thought that was a good idea? We replaced the whole shebang with lovely sand colored porcelain tile. The room looks HUGE now.

2., We have lived in this house for nearly 7 years and have done nothing in the way of renovations or updating. Last spring DH refaced the bathroom cabinets and drawers and that looked amazing. Now the floor is redone. Next week we are doing black granite on the countertop and a frosted glass vessel sink. I can't wait till it's done!!

3. Anytime you update one thing, it makes you aware of the 900 other things that suddenly look awful! We redid the hallway floor two months ago (it had the same awful carpet as the bathroom...beyond stained and gross. Now has lamintae wood). I have my eye on the kitchen next year!

4. Finally, we are contributing to the economy. The tile guy was an out of work flooring installer who is the BIL of one of our employees. We hired him for the job (and a couple of other odd jobs around the farm). His work has been beautiful and we were able to help him make his kid's Christmas into something good with the extra cash.

As for my thread title; it's one of our favorite shows. Renovation Reality is on DIY. I LOVE IT. We so want to apply to be on the show when we do the kitchen.

It's so fun to have something new like that isn't it? We have completely redone this house over the last 13 years and some areas have been redone already. You're right, there is no stopping point except budget.

Hope you took before and after pictures.
I can't get DIY but just love HGTV. Good luck on getting chosen.

We have carpet covering half of the master bathroom too. It's actually good looking carpet but just doesn't belong there.

I want to add tile too but we also need new fixtures, paint, lights and shower stall so I'm waiting. I'm worried that one change will just make the rest look worse like you said!

Dh just painted the living room last month and now wants to do the kitchen. On his snow day yesterday he painted the downstairs bathrroom. He thought that he could just tape over the border and keep it since we still like it. But that was not to be. When the tape came off so did some of the border. Now we are looking for another border. Three days before Christmas. Like I don't have enough to do. Luckily no one is coming until the 26th.

Yup - carpet in the two upstairs bathrooms too! We had the floor in the "water closet" in the other bathroom tiled and had the entire Master bathroom floor tiled. It looks great. And yes, the white surrounding tile, the countertops and shower stall now look like they need to be replaced!

I'd like to string up the person who thought that carpet in ANY bathroom is a good idea!

Your house is by NO means alone in having carpet in the bathrooms. In fact, I'd say that most of the houses and apartments in North Tacoma have or used to have carpeted bathrooms. Most of the houses and apartments I have been in around here, and since I moved here in '87 (though I was gone for 4 years) and until this year moved at least once a year, that's a whole lotta places! :goodvibes

And especially when you're renting, and especially when you're renting a house that is traditionally for college students...you KNOW it's truly a potty carpet. :headache:

We have carpet in the master bath that I so hate! Where the toilet is located is laminate floor which looks really nice, but the carpet is awful. I want to rip it out and put laminate in its place. The other 2 baths have laminate throughout and I cant understand why the master ended up with carpet. It's on our to-do list for next year.

Goodness gracious. I love carpet in the bathroom. Especially the master bathroom. That is the room I am in with bare feet, & carpet feels nice & warm not to mention soft.

Oh well, to each his own.

Bathroom carpets get wet...then moldy. Not to mention what happens when you flush the toilet. And what if the toilet backs up??

Totally gross.

I'm glad you like your new bathroom floor. We just finished a kitchen re-do. I'm exhausted. :rotfl:

We're wrapping up a two story addition on house right now! First floor is extension of family room and above that is a new master bath. We had someone do all the framing and exterior siding. We did all the interior work and exterior lighting. And we've got NO experience doing this!! :scared1:

Finished installing tile floor this past weekend. Will be calling plumber back to hook up everything shortly. We now just have bits and pieces of trim work to do!

Can't wait to have it all done!

DH is a self-admiting non-handy man. And Renovation Reality is one of the reason he says will never tackel redoing anything in our house. If you've seen it on RR, your gonna see it in our house. I keep telling him that's not going to happen, because we watch the show and we'll know better.

The timelines some of those people give themselves to get a job done. :scared1:

Your bathroom redo sound wonderful. Like you, we have carpet in our master bath and I hate it. I so want to pull it out and replace it with tile.

Another "potty carpet" owner here. I CAN'T WAIT to get it out of there!! It's the highest "wish" on my personal wish list. Just wish I had the $$ to do it!! It's nasty.

Grout is IN and the transition molding is down! He just has to put the tiolet back in and DONE. It looks SOOOOO good!!
