Reno or Vegas?

Some friends and I are planning a girls trip for next year and want to go to either Reno or Vegas. I have never been to Reno before but a friend going said her mom said it was fun and like Vegas but cheaper.

Has anyone been to both and can advise which one is better for the 30-something crowd?

Is there a strip like Vegas?

Can we get around without a car like Vegas?

Are there shows there?

Thanks!

I live in Reno and have been to Vegas twice and stayed on the strip.
There is no comparison. Reno does not have the shopping, the grand resorts, the water shows, the other type of shows, the restaurants or the entertainers. This is a much smaller town.

That said, there is a lot to see and do in the surrounding areas but if you are coming purely for a gambling/casino/resort experience, no, we are not Vegas.

Reno is a 45 minute drive from Lake Tahoe and all the beauty it has to offer. We are surrounded by a variety of topography with forests, desert, Pyramid Lake which has a low saline content and some of the most fascinating landscapes I have ever seen. Beautiful mountains surround us along with the Truckee River which offers rafting and kayaking depending on the season.

I have never been to Reno but from what I have heard, it's an older crowd. I would do Vegas. Much easier to do all around. Good food, good spa's and good pools. Not to mention, it is easy to get around and for everyone to fly into.

Thank you!! We def. want the shows and shopping!! I figured this was true, but since I have never been there I wanted to check first.

Thanks! We decided it will be Vegas! I knew it was the better choice but wanted to have some info to back up my thoughts...LOL

I agree! Vegas would be better for shopping and food. There is not a strip in Reno. But there is a lot of places that are gorgeous to go see.

I've been to both and Vegas would be the winner for a trip IMHO!!!

I  Reno AND Vegas, they are my horses names.:) OP, have a great trip and good luck!:thumbsup2

We do both but if we didn't snow ski, we'd never go to Reno again. Las Vegas is more entertaining.
