renewing AP's

While my AP's don't expire until April, I'm curious how much it is to renew. I know you get a little discount, right? We don't have plans to renew, but depending on the price I may try to talk my DH into it. We have 5 adult AP's (not the PAP's, but I may want to upgrade those if we do renew.)

I believe it is $15 cheaper for your renewal (just discussed this with my sister in Sept!!) Keep in mind though....your expiration date is now one year from the renewal. If you renew in April 2004, it is good til April 2005. Make sure you won't really save money by waiting til right before the next use!! My sister was going to renew in Sept, but since her next trip isn't til Oct., it wouldn't of paid at all!! It's too bad the renewals don't work like they used to!!

When are you planning to visit WDW again after you renew? If it is more than a month later it isn't worth renewing in advance--at least not to me. I hate "losing" time on an AP

The savings to renew my Disney Club annual pass is $35 before tax, so I assume the savings on a regular annual pass will be similar.

Believe it or not, you can check out ticket prices on the DIS. Afterall, that's how the DIS came into existance. Here's the link to the ticket price page:

A renewal AP is currently priced $42.60 less than a new AP.
A renewal PAP is currently priced $53.25 less than a new PAP.

I did the math and the savings amounts to a little more than 10% or, in terms of days, nearly 40 days. That means that if you renew an AP but do NOT use it at any time during the 40 days after it would have normally expired, you haven't saved anything. And if you don't start using it soon after that 40 days, you are actually doing yourself a DIS-service by purchasing a renewal.

Our family has had APs since 2001, but we always let them expire and purchase new ones on our next vacation. We try to get two years use out of APs by arranging our vacations to that we go twice within 365 days.
