Ok, I looked high and low but couldn't quite find the answer I seek. Help me!!:worship: We have annual passes activated on April 22, 2008:thumbsup2 . If we purchase the renewal passes within 30 days of their expiration date, say April 21 2009, but don't activate them until November 1 2009 do we have a year from the November date or the April date in 2009? :confused3 Whew...

year from the date it expired not from when you use it

I believe April.

It used to be that you would have a year from the date you activated the renewal but Disney caught onto that glitch. A few years ago they changed it and now your renewal begins on the date your previous pass expired, so your passes would continue to expire in April.

Don't renew - just buy new passes at today's prices - and activate them when you need them!

If you do new buy the AP online. They will give you a voucher and then you can hold onto it until you need it. So you can buy at todays rate and hold onto it until any year.

To weigh-in...

I just tried to do this myself and got all the way through the renewal sale and asked the date question. My passes expired August 16, 2008. So the new passes at the renewal rate would expire August 16, 2009. Which is when we are planning to visit in August! They had to cancel the sale, and then I placed the order for NEW APs with an expiration date based on when I will use them first.

We purchase APs and get two trips out of them (usually Dec. and Oct.) then we purchase new APs (not renewals) and start them the next year in Dec. For example...

Dec. '08 - Activate AP
Oct. '09 - AP still good
Dec. 10 - Activate AP
Oct. '00 - AP still good

By doing this we get our annual 2-week trip in but only buy APs every other year. It saves us quite a bit of money, even without the renewal rate, since we get 4 weeks of park time in on each AP.
