I would like to book Remy for my family on our upcoming Dream cruise - I think my husband and kids (20 & 23) would love it as they are foodies and adventurous eaters - but I am the complete opposite..:(

I prefer chicken or beef (well done beef :rolleyes1) and I do not eat fish/shellfish, duck, lamb, etc. :sad2: I am aware that by my self-imposed food limitations I will probably not get the same enjoyment out of the meal that most people would - and I feel the Chef's talents at Remy will undoubtably be wasted on my simple palate but I would like to join my family as I really think they will love the experience.

My question is - Can Remy prepare a chicken or well-done beef dish for me? I am assuming these items are not normally offered on the menu  . If so - is this something I could/should request in advance ? I don't know if this type of special request is allowed and I just don't want to cause any undo work for anyone that night...

Anyone have any experience dining at Remy with someone who has an unsophisticated palate?

Thanks for any advice you can give !!:flower:

I'm with you. Meat and potatoes for me. I have always skipped Palo, but this year, since all of our kids are adults, I booked a brunch.

I’m like you. I really thought I would be getting pizza after our Remy meal. The food was delicious. I just told my waiter I hate fish. He recommend dishes for me. Everything was great.i was full when I left. Remy was a one time and done for me because of the $$$ and I don’t like wearing a suit but has nothing to do with the food.

We've dined at Remy on Fantasy. It was a marvelous experience of foods we have never enjoyed. If I remember correctly, it was a 4 or 5 course meal. Each course is small and unique. It's not like Sunday dinner at home, "passes the potatoes ", but small experiences of appetizer, salad, soup, entree, and desert. Look at some past Remy menus to see the what is served. Yes you can order beef well done. Just give it a try and enjoy something new.

If I were you, I would opt for Palo brunch instead of Remy. Remy is so expensive for you to go and not enjoy your meal. But Palo brunch has a big buffet with lots of accessible items (pastries etc.) and lots of very accessible options on the regular menu (chicken parm., pizza).

You can always request a vegetarian menu if you're afraid of getting any meats you might not like. I have friends who have had the vegetarian menu and swear by it.

Let the family go to Remy’s and you do either the standard meal or Paolo’s It’s one meal of 9, 12 or 21. There are more opportunities to dine together.

I have to agree with this, having done Palo a zillion times and Remy once. And DH and I are foodies. I think Palo might be a wonderful option for you. If the family is excited about going to Remy, then PP have made some great suggestions for you for Remy! Either way, have fun and bon appetit!

I agree with this too! You will receive the special attention of an adult only meal without the added pressure of 'FiNE dining'. We love all types of food and are very adventurous and though we enjoyed Remy we don't find ourselves making more reservations there past the first one. However, we always do a Palo brunch regardless of our itinerary.

I am not an adventurous eater at all and I have loved my visits to Remy! I would normally never consider trying some of the foods they served me, but I loved most of it. The chefs have a gift and they want you happy. Go with your family, talk to your server, and have an open mind. Worst case scenario, you have quality family time and you grab a snack elsewhere.

DW and I are meat and potatoes people. We ate a Remy's once. I recommend it for the experience. You won't be able to order a lot of things just for you - but you can lightly taste everything (that's what we did - at least the things that didn't scare us too much - there are some reasonable non-scary things to try) and then grab some food elsewhere on the ship afterwards - you never starve on a cruise!

Remy will always hold a special place for me since I got engaged there. The food is very similar to Victoria and Albert's, but I much prefer V&A and I don't think I'll book it again. At V&A I literally loved everything I've been served, even food I normally hate. At Remy there were a couple dishes I did not like at all and found that really disappointing. I'm not sure if they are like V&A where you can call ahead with any allergies or food dislikes, but you could try doing that to see if they will tweak your menu a bit. If you really want the others in your party to go and want to experience it with them then I say go for it, it's always good to try something for yourself since opinions can vary. There is plenty of free food on the ship if you're hungry afterwards you could get some.

If the only meats you want are chicken and well-done beef, Remy should be able to accommodate you. Stop by on your first night onboard and ask the cast member at Remy to note your preferences on your reservation. Based on our dinner when my husband requested no peppers, I requested no mushrooms, and we both requested no meat or shellfish, the chef will enjoy a challenge.

Thanks everyone for your responses - I think I will give it a shot. - I would like to experience it with my family. Thanks for the suggestion of requesting a vegetarian option - might be the perfect compromise for me as I am happy with most vegetarian meals...

As many have pointed out - there is an aboundance of food available on the ship so I will definitely not starve!! :flower1:

I second the Palo recommendation. Brunch was AMAZING. They was so much food to choose from. My husband is very picky, but in addition to the buffet, you can order delicious Italian food from a menu. They made sure he was happy and kept bringing out more food for him to try. It was such a wonderful experience that we booked a second meal later in our cruise.

I eat pretty much only beef and chicken. They will prepare it the way you like it. Go without any hesitation.

p.s.:A palate can be developped. ;)
