Removal of Walk Around The World bricks?

On every WDW trip, for our first visit to the Magic Kingdom we find our brick and take a picture... right there 8 rows from the edge near the turnstiles. If the security fence were not up you would walk over it on the way in.

I know the day will come it will be torn up, and I hope they offer a new version so we can add our daughter to it.. she was born after we bought the brick, which must be more than 15 years ago now!

Some of these bricks must be 20 years old by now. I believe the original commitment by Disney was that they would stay there 10 years. I think we all got our money's worth out of it.

We bought a brick on our honeymoon. Ours in on the walkway from Magic Kingdom towards the Grand Floridian. We always find our brick while we are there. Last August even though no one walks that way ours was in terrible shape. The black in the letters was faded and falling out. We were going back for Christmas so I bought black concrete acrylic paint and we went before the Christmas Party and painted in our letters so it's readable again. I think I did a pretty good job!

Nice brick maintenance! My family has two bricks - one is at the front entrance of MK - probably in one of the most heavily traveled areas. The other is at TTC. Our brick at MK is in pretty bad shape - almost illegible. I've tried using a black permanent marker to fill in the letters, which works for maybe a few days. I'd like to try something more permanent, much like you have done.

Ah..but we didn't get ours until 2007, as part of a short-lived "fill in" program. Which means I _should_ have 3 more years, while everyone else got almost 20... :)

I think I heard someone uses black nail polish...

They are 20 years old ....:thumbsup2

Our WDW block is way out by the TTC entrance. As a result, we rarely see it.

Our DL block is right by the entrance to DL, maybe 10-20' from the turnstiles. I see that one every time I go to DL!

Do Disney CMs say anything when you fill in the blocks with black to make the legible? I am sure none would out by TTC, but my DL one is right in a high traffic area. (that one is pretty new though and looking ok so far)

I really wish they'd offer these again. My wife and I were just married at the Wedding Pavilion a month ago, and would love to have a brick near there. We actually looked at a lot of them around there and the MK entrance, there's still a ton of room. I'm not sure why they would rip these up...especially when there's space to sell.

They tried to fill in the holes back in 2007 (that's when we got one, at a premium no less), but apparently some higher ups decided they didn't want any more bricks put in place.

I have two. One is at the Magic Kingdom at the turnstiles on the left. It was installed in 1994 so its been there 20 years. This brick is very worn and difficult to read. The other one is at the monorail station at the TCC and it has the millennium celebration (celebrate the future hand in hand) logo on it. I've seen that one maybe twice; I have a difficult time locating it.

I couldn't locate ours in front of the MK last trip. Looked like new trees were planted in some of the area.... :sad2:

You can go to Town Hall and get a map that will make it easier to find your brick. That's what we did. :thumbsup2
Nancy :)

Do they have the map for the TTC area as well? I received a MK brick map from them, but didn't ask about TTC.

I know I got one years ago for the Poly, but it was pretty vague - just a photocopy of a Poly map with an area highlighted...and it was wrong - instead of being on the walk to the Floridian like it showed, it was completely on the other side on the walk to the TTC. The people at MK GR knew where it was though.

I'd rather they rip out those damn tombstones with the fading mugshots at the entrance to EPCOT! What an eyesore!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I remember back in the 80s when the entrance to Epcot was those beautiful flowering large areas.

Grumpy ! LOL To each their own :lmao:

Thanks for reminding me what I have hidden away ! I am going to NOW get it framed ! It is a full size clear plastic sheet (thick) of our panel at epcot.
Its located to the left in the front row. This is what the factory used sort of like a photo to create a panel. Quite rare :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Out of pure curiosity, how much did the bricks cost (both in the 90s and in '07)?

Back in 94 brick with a certificate and plastic brick with stand was around $150 .
Interesting...

I'm guessing that since Disney has a bit of a skewed idea of how inflation goes that if these were ever to be offered again we'd be looking at more like $500-$1000.
