Removal of Walk Around The World bricks?

When we bought ours in 1996 I believe we paid $100 but we did not get the plastic brick just a certificate in the mail telling us where our brick had been placed.

I think ours was about 100.00 in 1997. I bought it as a surprise for my then fiance before our first trip to WDW together. The night we arrived, I told him I'd promised somebody on the usenet message board I'd find the their brick. We hunted around and then I said "oh look at this one". He loved the surprise.
At that trip, they were selling acrylic replicas, so we have one of those somewhere.

Our brink is towards the wedding pavilion from the Poly. Somewhere we have a picture we took from the brick, but I don't know where that is either.

Bought my parents one for their 50th anniversary. It was at TTC. We looked for it and they had put a automatic ticket machine there. We found it about 20 feet away with the help of a security guard and have never found it again. When I tried to buy one a year later there was recording that said they were no longer for sale and to buy a square thing at Ecpot. I did and can't even remember where that one was... Better ugly picture... We also brought three bricks at DL and see it everytime we go.

Ours was $100 in 1997. No special brick material (that was an extra $50 or $100) and no clear plastic brick either. Just your ordinary terra-cotta brick. We did get a nice certificate.

two random observations-

a friend swears that her brick was moved (a couple of years ago, we happened to look down and saw their name, took a picture and send it to her) when she saw the picture, she was 90% sure that was not its original location.

We were there last week. While walking from the bus stop to the entrance, we noticed that some blocks seemed loose. You could feel them move slightly and the area around them seemed "sandy" like when you lay patio pavers. We assumed they were doing repairs because it wasn't all over, just in one section.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the bricks removed at some point. We stayed at VGF a few weeks back. Each morning, we walked from the GF to TTC to get some exercise. Many of the paver bricks were in very bad shape, with letters that were almost completely worn off.

The other thing I noticed is the amount of maintenance required to keep weeds and grass from growing between the pavers. We saw a groundskeeper spraying weed killer on the path each morning. A concrete path would require much less daily maintenance, saving labor hours.

Of course, it's easier to repair sections of the pavers than concrete. It will ultimately come down to a financial decision.

There have been occasions where bricks had to be removed and relocated due to changes in construction.

On every WDW trip, for our first visit to the Magic Kingdom we find our brick and take a picture... right there 8 rows from the edge near the turnstiles. If the security fence were not up you would walk over it on the way in.

I know the day will come it will be torn up, and I hope they offer a new version so we can add our daughter to it.. she was born after we bought the brick, which must be more than 15 years ago now!

You can have your brick replaced if you want it to say something different. I proposed using a brick and I had it removed and replaced with our wedding date. The old brick is in my back yard. We also have one in Disneyland and we have acrylic versions of all 3 and wooden key chains of the 2 WDW bricks.

They don’t guarantee they will remain for 10 years they just say they will not remove them within 10 years unless something needs to go in its place. Even then sometimes they relocate them. Ours got moved once from its original spot at the front of the TTC.

I think our original was in 1999 and was about #100 and its at the TTC outside by the ticket offices and then we got the chance to buy in 2007 during the short time they did fill in's and that was $300. Its right smack in the middle of the entrance to Magic Kingdom where you can walk in with no bags. primo spot

I somehow missed being able to purchase a replica also. I would have purchased one if I had known. My brick was purchased in 1994 so maybe that was not an option then. Mine is very worn as its located near on the MK turnstiles. I'd love to have it replaced and would like to have the original.

Anyone have more info?

Thanks for reminding me what I have hidden away ! I am going to NOW get it framed ! It is a full size clear plastic sheet (thick) of our panel at epcot.
Its located to the left in the front row. This is what the factory used sort of like a photo to create a panel. Quite rare

Please keep the picture "tombs" in Epcot our children have thief picture there from many years ago . When they find it many memories of the past are shared with thief friends.

It started in 1999 and ended in 2007. I believe they stated 10 years as well, which would put the minimum removal time in 2017 (which, in theory, would coincide with the bricks if they held to 10 years on the fill-in program).

Correction: just checked, and it appears they were stated to stay for _twenty_ years, so 2027, according to http://www.yesterland.com/legacy.html

That's cool that you have that. I always think of the big black monolith from 2001 A Space Odyssey...Hal open the pod bay doors... Cool idea but I wish they would have refreshed the pictures or maybe move the monoliths a little more to the sides of the court yard. I know probably impossible. I wouldn't mind having one of those monoliths for counter top in my kitchen!
