Removal of Walk Around The World bricks?

Not that I usually post rumors of this sort, but since I have one of these...

Someone on Facebook, who I have no reason to disbelieve at this point, says he was told by the CMs (yeah, yeah, I know) that they will be ripping up all the bricks of the Walk Around the World in 2015.

Since I got a brick during the very brief "fill in" program in 2007, and they at least used to say they guaranteed the brick placement for 10 years (although I don't recall if there was any actual language on the agreement in 2007), that would obviously be a couple years short in my case - but obviously for the majority of them they are long beyond that guarantee.

I'm hoping that any of our CM friends closer to the situation might have any further info?

I always thought it was inevitable that the lagoon would one day have a full path around it...logistics aside

The addition of more vacation club and the de-emphasis on the monorail makes me think that's more inevitable

I can't see them doing that Brian. We recently walked what has to be the most heavily trodden section of the Walk Around the World (between the MK and the Contemporary) and don't see a safety related reason to rip them out. It doesn't make sense to me that (other than a safety issue) they would rip out perfectly serviceable bricks.

Unless they are planning on selling them again? :stir:

See...that's it. I know Disney like you do...they aren't going to remove a perfectly fine and quite large walkway just because they want to. There would need to be specific reason. If they aren't needing to rip it up for safety reasons, or construction reasons, I can't see it. And even if they did, I still don't think they'd do the entire thing just because...they'd rip it up only where they need to.

It's like why River Country is still there, slowly rotting away...they don't need to tear it down because they don't have a reason to...

Yes I can't see them getting rid of it unless there is a reason. I don't know what that reason would be either.

I bought a brick for my Dad right after he died. It would be strange if they ripped it up but I know that Disney never promised that they would stay forever.

I'd rather they rip out those damn tombstones with the fading mugshots at the entrance to EPCOT! What an eyesore!

A friend refers to them as the tomb of the unknown tourist

Maybe they think there's room to put another timeshare in that spot. Disney execs would rip up their own mothers' tombstones to do that.

but they wouldn't move the bodies.....

I hope this isn't true! :sad2: My brick is on the walkway in front of the Resort Boat Launch. Just past where you line up to wait for the boats. Not too much traffic back there so I thought I was safe.:confused3

Ours is under the monorail as you walk from the boats and the buses. (Although I can never seem to find it when I look)

Maybe you will be able to have your name etched on a piece of aggregate stone used in the concrete mix that will be used to replace the existing side walk.

Priceless.

Disney Magical Wishes of Dreams exclusive Slurry Festival...working title

And they can put one of those Mickey spinners next to it so you can book a fastpass on your frozen magic band to see it.

slurry festival... thats awesome.

My wife's family has one of these from when she was a kid. Hope they relocate them, would be cool to take a future kid to see it someday (though they're fading fast)

We bought a brick on our honeymoon. Ours in on the walkway from Magic Kingdom towards the Grand Floridian. We always find our brick while we are there. Last August even though no one walks that way ours was in terrible shape. The black in the letters was faded and falling out. We were going back for Christmas so I bought black concrete acrylic paint and we went before the Christmas Party and painted in our letters so it's readable again. I think I did a pretty good job!
