Reminder: Magic Morning is not Extra Magic Hour

We just returned from our Disney trip Oct. 21-26. There were always people in line Sun, Mon, Wed, and Fri morning upset to find that they could NOT use their 3+ day ticket to enter DCA early. Just a reminder: a 3+ day ticket allows for one Magic Morning into Disneyland only (unless you stay at an onsite hotel). I felt so bad for those folks! The only way to have the Extra Magic hour for DCA is to stay at an onsite hotel.

Thank you for this post. Since so many newbies are coming this year I've been wishing there was an obvious sticky for this. So many are getting it confused.

It doesn't help that a lot use the term EMH or EE for both MM and EMH. They aren't interchangeable.

I noticed this when I was in the lineup to enter DCA early in September (we stayed at PPH and it was when you could get into whichever park you chose early if you were staying at one of the Disney hotels) - it was a day when only hotel guests could enter DCA early but the group in front of us weren't aware their 3 day pass allowed them early only into DL. However the CM let them in anyway. I thought at the time they should have had some signs up to explain who could enter early when, as it is confusing for lots of people.

Thanks for this post. We are going tomorrow and using the City Pass. It says:

Magic Morning note: Allows entry into selected attractions on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. Applicable Theme Park days and times of operation, and included attractions vary and subject to change ...

So, it could be worded better on those. Glad we read the fine print and looked online before showing up early tomorrow!

Note that you cannot use it on Sunday any more either, just Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday.

Do the military 3 day tickets qualify for mm? We are going in dec using these. I will book at a good neighbor hotel if I need to!

They are using the wording from the old days from before the end of summer. For AGES it was the S and T days for Disneyland's MM. Then at the end of September they took that one "S" day away from MM and gave it to EMH at DCA.

No, the discounted military tickets do NOT have MM. You would have to stay onsite (not at a good neighbor, but at one of the 3 Disney hotels) to get MM at Disneyland (and then you'd get EMH at DCA, too), since MM isn't included with discounted military tickets.

Thank you so much for this information, I didn't know this, so now I'm just changing my plan. :lmao:

I wish we knew when we went this past weekend. It's our first trip in seven years and it was really sad to be so excited to enter DCA, after an impromptu countdown by the crowd, only to be turned away from the gates.

On our trip a couple of weeks ago, I saw several groups lined up early for DCA thinking they could get in when they were not resort guests. They were irked about not being able to get in, but they were not allowed, nor should they be, entry. We didn't have an early entry either, but were lined up as early as those that did so I could get a good spot in the RSR fp line.

Just to clarify then: if I stay at an on site hotel, I can use both EMH at DCA and MM at Disneyland as many days that I want during my trip? Is that correct? Thanks

Yes, as a guest of the on-site hotels, you may utilize EMH as many times as you want during your stay. This includes your check-in and check-out days.

Technically you are getting EMH at BOTH parks since you are staying onsite. You don't need MM - it's for people staying offsite and comes with tickets and gets them into DL park early. MM tickets do not allow early entry into DCA at all.

EMH and MM people share the same early entry into DL park on select days.

A person staying offsite with MM tickets will be allowed into DL park an hour early on select days. They will not be able to get into DCA park early at all.

Hence the title of this thread: MM is not EMH. The interchange of these terms is what confuses folks. Some staying offsite with MM tickets have thought they could get into DCA EMH early and are disappointed to find out they cannot. MM is only for DL park.

Yes. You could, if you had the energy, enter Disneyland early on their Magic Morning days, and enter DCA early on their EMH days. Which means entering a park early every day of your trip.

I was about to say "nuh uh", but looked it up instead. :)

COULD Disney be making this any more confusing????

You're totally right. The Disneyland page is here.

The problem is that Disney has EMH up on their signs at the DCA turnstiles, and Magic Morning at the signs at the DL turnstiles, at least that's what I noticed in early October.

Just like having Magic Morning and Morning Madness, it's like they are TRYING to confuse people...

We purchased our ticket via Costco, but we will be staying at the Villas at the Grand Californian. Will we show our room keep to get in with Extra Magic Hour?
