Remembering extinct foods

Wow, talk about a walk down memory lane. I have a ton of memories. Apparently my mom and dad had no problems feeding us total crap.

Ice Teasers - powdered drink mix, a precursor to Crystal Lite. It was fruit flavored tea...LOVED that stuff!

Bar None candy bars - the candy bar that defined my high school years. I think I bought one every day in the cafeteria at school.

Astro Pops - do they still make these? I got one every time we went to the movie theater and at the swimming pool in the summers

Grape Hubba Bubba - I got a multipack for my 8th bday at the skating rink. Best present ever!!! Thought I had died and gone to heaven. That was the softest, tastiest gum ever.

Jungle Juice - made by Purity Dairy here in Nashville, although I am sure other dairies carried it as well. I always had either a carton of Jungle Juice of a carton of Dair-E Lemonade with my lunch everyday. Never was a big fan of milk.

Slurpees - sold in convenience stores, similar to an icee but the ice chunks were bigger...it was like a fruit drink with tons of little ice pellets in it, like a sno-cone but not, lol. The logo was a dog wearing a slurpee shirt. Haven't seen those in a while, I guess Icee took over the market.

Koogle - chocolate flavored peanut butter. In my distant kid memories it was the best stuff ever!

Five Alive - someone mentioned it earlier. Seems like it was similar to Sunny D? I can remember making it (came in a concentrated juice can in the freezer section) but can't remember exactly what it tasted like.

Fruzen Gladje - ice cream. Haven't seen it in years.

You wouldn't happen to be referring to Slushpuppies? I used to LOVE those things... One of my home towns old gas station used to have a HUGE (well, it seemed huge when I was 5 lol) Slushpuppy maker stand with like 10 different flavors of syrup.

I forget what they were called, but it was some kind of pizza chip. Kind of like a Dorito. And also these ice cream-flavored lollipops. Can't remember what they were called either. And strawberry Pepsi, that was just a couple of years ago, I really liked that.
Chupa-chups! I loved those (I once stayed in a hotel at the peak of the chupa-chups craze that had big bowls of them).
oh my... there are so many things that I miss!

- Crispy Critters and Strawberry Shortcake cereal
- when fruit rollups came in actual flavors other than the boring strawberry and wacky tri-color thing they have now. The apple was the best!!
- French Toast Crunch. It was like cinnamon toast crunch, but a million times better!!!!
- purplesaurus rex Kool-aid
- at holiday time they had an ice cream treat, it was a gingerbread man with ice cream in between. I remember that it was in a green box. I loved those!
I loved Crispy Critters!

Oh, and Pop Qwiz microwave popcorn! It was the kind that popped up a different color; you never knew which color you'd get until you opened the bag. For some reason, it always tasted much more buttery and delightful than normal microwave popcorn. I remember my mom buying a case of it for me to take to school my freshman year in college. I miss that stuff.
I was thinking about that stuff this weekend..I always requested it at my birthday party.
Anyone remember that pop/drink called "Orbz" or something like that in the mid 90s? I remember those were REALLY popular after that "Clueless" movie in middleschool/early high school.. They were like clear drinks with little jello bubbles floating in them or something.. I never drank them, I just had one I kept on my dresser as a teen cause I thought it looked cool. lmao

Yepp-the gummis and liquid were the same density, ergo the floating.

Anhyone remember clear Tab and Pepsi?

I used to LOVE Lipton's Cup O Soup! I would two packets in my mug for some really thick soup. I miss them.

I remember the candy cigaretts and the bubblegum cigars. Pink for new born girls and blue for boys. In fact my husband bought the blue ones to give out when our son was born. I used to love the candy lipsticks. My aunt used to work in the factory that made them locally in Atlantic City, New Jersey back in the 40's and 50's. She would bring them home every once in a while for a treat.

Does anyone remember violet candy and gum? Chowards made them. I loved them and it made your breath sweet.

You wouldn't happen to be referring to Slushpuppies? I used to LOVE those things... One of my home towns old gas station used to have a HUGE (well, it seemed huge when I was 5 lol) Slushpuppy maker stand with like 10 different flavors of syrup.

That's it!!!! Slushpuppies!!!! I used to drink those as a kid all the time, before the advent of Icees. For a while you could get either, then Icee just kind of took over.

Ok, I finally remembered two items (after racking out my brains to come up with one).

My mom used to buy Creamy Cumcumber salad dressing. I don't remember the manufacturer, but I  it!

This was my fav salad dressing...Kraft made it.

I miss a lot of things that have been mentioned, but another thing I liked, which was a brown-in-bag salisbury steak seasoning mix with cooking bag - - really made tender meat!

The other thing I remember was microwavable french fries in a single serving box. I haven't seen those around in a long time.

I thought it was Kraft. I really like it too, haven't seen it in ages. I like to mix it with cut up cukes, onion, tomato and any other veggies I might have. :)

MMM...lots of things from the past...

King Vitamin...have found it recently, not so good any more
Quisp...same thing
Space Sticks...LOVED those things!!!
Something I haven't seen and maybe it was a local thing....Bacon Cheetos...OMG!!!! HS lunch Bacon Cheetos, Suzy Q's and Dr. Pepper...oh the things we could eat....
And finally, Mallo Cups...kinda like Reeses Peanut butter cups, only marshmellow in the center. Still have them at Cracker Barrel...

I can't for the life of me find....Adolph's MEAT marinade. It came in a little yellow packet. Was always by the meat case and sometimes with the other packet gravies. That stuff made your meat SO tender and SO tasty. But can't find it anywhere. :sad1:

I used to LOVE Lipton's Cup O Soup! I would two packets in my mug for some really thick soup. I miss them.

They are still sold. Must be regional. I know they are available in the Virginia area. I still use 2 packets for the same reason you did. Mmmm...cream of chicken.

This entire thread is like a trip through my childhood. I remember the microwave fries. My mom can't cook unless it's nuked so we got fries! Half the time they got burned. I think they were ore ida.

I remember these fries too! They were Ore-Ida. I used to make them for my little brother when we got home from school! The burnt ones were always my favorite.

Bar None candy bars - the candy bar that defined my high school years. I think I bought one every day in the cafeteria at school.

I lived on these for a day when I was 15. I was the Catcher in an all-day long softball tournament in July and between games I would eat a Bar None and drink a Pepsi. No energy drinks for me! Just pure SUGAR!

My husband has a huge light-up twirling Slush Puppy in our basement. His mom ran a little snack shop when he was a teenager and they sold Slushpuppies there. When it closed, he got to keep the big dog.

I know I'm a little young, but does anyone remember:
(The Kool Aid that was prepackaged - no powder! - in the plastic bottles with the twist off tops. I loved these.)

DS8 still drinks these occasionally, however they are called MONDO's here in North Carolina.

I think you're right. I used to love putting cheese on them.

I love this salad dressing. I've never had the mass produced kind that you are talking about, but there is this natural market/fruit stand just outside the entrance to Everglades National Park. They have dozens of different and unique dressings made fresh. I love their cucumber dressing and get it every time we are in that area.

:offtopic: I see you live on Long Island. I grew up there in Nesconset. I lived down the block from the Smith Haven Mall.

Small world :) DH works at Stony Brook (East Campus), but we live in E. Patchogue.

Grape Hubba Bubba - I got a multipack for my 8th bday at the skating rink. Best present ever!!! Thought I had died and gone to heaven. That was the softest, tastiest gum ever.

Hubba Bubba is still around. Do you remember the western themed commercial?

Jekajkalynn is correct. The one with the dog on it is a Slushpuppy. We have a local deli that sells Slushpuppies during the Summer into about October/Novemeber. DS7 loves them.

Slurpees are found in 7-11 stores and are thicker. Both DH and DS love mixing the different flavors.

I used to love the origibal Hamburger helper Rice Oriental, not what they have now.
And i loved the swirled lifesaver Lollypops.

Slurpees are my favorite-when I was little, the machine was behind the counter at 7-11 and they had to make it for you-2 flavors only, I used to get it half and half.

We still have Slush Puppies-our Little League stand sells them, as does Blimpies(like Subway- not sure if they're a national chain).

20 yrs ago or so, Tuna Helper used to have a Tuna Pot Pie kit, that I substitued chicken in. Warm tuna is yuck! Not even sure why I liked this stuff, but I did. They stopped making it.

I make my own chicken pot pies from scratch now and they are way better, but I still miss that stupid Tuna Helper kit and look each time I'm in a store. :rotfl:

I really miss the Taco Doritos. Not the Taco Bell kind...... just plain taco, they were in an orange bag and they were one of the first few flavors, before cool ranch even. They were soooo yummy!!
