Remember the twinkly pins??

These were from the millenium celebration, if I remember right... my aunt and I were trying to remember when we got them. They had 5 different designs -- one for each park, plus one millenium design. They glowed, twinkled, flashed, all sorts of different things, set off by sensors all over the World. $15 never made either of us so happy in our lives. They even went into crazy flashing fireworks mode in the fireworks room of El Rio del Tiempo!! And at MK at night, during the Goodnight Kiss, they would softly twinkle and change colors just like the castle.

Most. Awesome. Souvenir. Ever.

For anyone that knows what I'm talking about, do the pins still work, by some miracle?? Or did they just rip the sensors out of the parks... :( We so miss seeing what our pins would do next at different places!!

I have mine right here by the PC. I should bring it in Dec if I go. :thumbsup2 They were very cool.

I think they were a bit of a test platform also for the Pal Mickey, which came out a year or so later, works on the same signal concept. I would think they still work.

 Gina.

I have no idea what you're talking about (relative WDW newb here), BUT I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!! ooooooh sparklies.... :lovestruc

Hi Dan!!!!

*tackle hugs Dan*

Ohmygosh, I haven't talked to you in AGES!! I'm so glad to see you're still here!! *hugs him again for good measure* :) When are you going in December??

NurseJamie, I'm not doing them justice at all. They were SO cool. I remember on Haunted Mansion, they glowed this eerie orange color on and off... they were just amazing, how differently they would be at different times. I think I'm getting new batteries and bringing mine in December just in case!

I think those are called the Magical Moments Pins...I have two, one from 2002 and one from 2003...the one from '03 does a lot more than the one from '02! And yes, they still work, or did when we were there in October 2005. I love it best when leaving Epcot...something sets it off, and it twinkles and flashes for ages after you leave the park. Very nice evening kiss goodnight. :)

:woohoo: :wave2: Hope all is well with you and family.

I hope to be there 12/1-12/11. :cool1:

Also, they were 100 Years Of Magic, not The Millennium Celebration.

They also sparkled when you entered or left the parks.

That's them!! Magical Moments pins! And you're right, it was the 100 Years Celebration... oh man, I hope they still work!

And thanks, Dan -- hope you and yours are well and happy too. :) Where are you staying? Are there any DIS meets going on I should know about? We'll only be there the 7th through the 11th, though. But still!

I just found a TON of these things on eBay for all interested parties! :)

I got them off Ebay for my kids last year. They were too heavy for the kids shirts, but they were cute. I wonder if their batteries burst -- they are up in the attic in our WDW box, and our heat index was over 105 degrees today. Had to be crazy-hot in the attic!!

Oh wow, these pins sound so cool! I love ANYTHING twinkly and flashy!!! Hey "Mickey&Donald" - are they listed as Magical Moments Pins on e-bay? I haven't looked yet.

Actually after I looked, very few of the special lighted ones. Found only two "Sorcerer Mickeys" -- Wish I could find the MK one or the AK one! ** ARG -- too many DIS people looked it up -- went from $4.00 to $15.00 in about 1 1/2 hours!! - looks like I'll have to do without this fun item for now! :teeth: **

PS - Loving this DIS Radio --- I love listening to "The Bells of Notre Dame"! One of the Disney Collections with this is on my WISH LIST!

I've got the whole set stashed away somewhere (sans batteries). They are quite cool looking and, in talking about this with other people, they were still working back in the middle of '05. Not sure if that's changed or not and we forgot to bring them with us back in January (which was a GREAT excuse for me to buy My Pal Mickey! :) ).

We bought some of these off of ebay last year for the boys and they definitely still worked in the parks :thumbsup2 They are very cool!

Thanks, Gina.

Should be the Swan. There are always a lot of DIS folks there at that time of the year. No 'formal' meets, after the DIS-Con disaster of '02, but lots of 'mini' meets I am sure. Also Mousefest. http://www.mousefest.org/ :thumbsup2

Those pins were good fun!!!! :teeth:

I didn't get one, but my DH and DD each got one, and we would love watching them light up. My favorite time seeing it light up was on the Pirates of the Carribbean and we were in the complete dark and their pins start sparkling - it was so cool!!!!

We were at WDW two weeks ago and I wore mine on my bag. It went off on every ride at every park. We were so excited that they still worked! I was asked about the pin by alot of people. Just make sure you get the right batteries and take extra, they die pretty quickly.
Have fun!

Thanks so much for the reminder! I just got mine out of the bag from our Dec '04 trip and put it in the bag to go with us on SUNDAY!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks again for the reminder!

I think Pal Mickey is staying home this time. It's just DH and I going and while I LOVE him to death(PM) - (oh, okay, DH too) I think he'll wait til the whole family goes at Christmas.

Thanks again for the reminder about the pins!

ETA... I just looked at my handy, dandy, WDW binder and found the list of places where the pins interact. It's about 1/2 way down the page on this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=694905

Have fun!!!

I hope I can get one of these before my Nov trip on E-Bay (at a reasonable price!) They sound so wonderful!!

Anyway "vsimeone" - loved the humor ["It's just DH and I going and while I LOVE him to death(PM) - (oh, okay, DH too)" ] -- I was laughing -- I hope you have a great time on your GF Anniversary. My DH and I are going on an anniversary trip this Nov!!

**I'm thinking about buying a Pal Mickey but can't make up my mind!!**

Thank you for the interaction list!!! I'm just so excited they still work... I just bought an extra one on Ebay, to have a spare, and I'll definitely bring a bunch of the batteries for them. YAY!!!

FYI-
I lost the metal clasps to the pin, the pin is so heavy. Disney sells a bag of Mickey shaped rubber pin backs for pretty cheap. I think there were 10-15 in a bag. I lost a few of those as well. I was glad I had back-ups. Just giving you a heads up... I know no one wants to lose those pins.
