Remember the Disney Dollars in the safe at home before you are 230 miles from home!

We left this morning for our vacation. We were having a great drive down to Florida even with all the road construction. My honey had the portable dvd player humming with Pirates of the Caribbean. It was going so well......

Then, after a quick fill up about 230 miles away from home, I asked, mostly in jest, "Honey, did you get the Disney Dollars out of your safe?"

The answer I got was laden with several expletives and the word "No!"

So, we began the drive home again, since we have about $750 in Disney Dollars that is supposed to be our "fun money." Four and a half hours later, we arrived home again.

Let this be a lesson for all of you. Please learn from our mistake. Maggie

Oh NO, that is so sad!!!! I guess you can be happy you were not flying or all the way to Disney when you remembered. What a bummer. Hope the rest of your trip is MUCH better.

You're not the only one!!! I cashed in the money from my Visa and had it here somewhere. I looked and looked with all my Disney papers, tickets and reservation things and I can't find it!!! So we didn't have it for last week. Luckily we're going down again in July, and "hopefully" I'll be able to find it by then or replace it by then!!!

Back in the summer, I had been saving all my tips from work and my extra $$$ bills when my daughter went into the hospital about an hour away from home. I tossed it in the glove compartment so I could run by the bank--when my engine light came on. Rather than take a chance on a breakdown out of town, I ran by my dealer to have it checked out. A couple of hours later, I was on my way. Stayed a couple of days at the hospital, then on my way home went by the bank. Unlocked the glove compartment and pulled out the envelop with the cash..but guess what? The two bundles of $100 ones were there, but the four $100 bills had mysteriously disappeared out of the envelop. Of course, the only time my keys were out of my possession was when it was being serviced, but the service manager refused to even consider that one of his staff had taken it. After all -- they are bonded, and I couldn't prove that the money in there when I took it to them, according to him. Made me sick!

Reminds me of the trip when we were so thrilled I left my wallet with my ID, credit cards, tickets and all...in the car, parked at the airport and realized it when I was checking in at the airline's counter!!!

I just ran out and begged the next shuttle driver to take me back. Eventually, I recovered it on time, but gawsh, what a scare!

So sorry to hear you turned around. You are certainly not alone.

Two years ago, I got a call from my DSIL, already in Orlando, "Can you please go into my nighttable and get the Disney dollars and FedEx them?" Well long story short, I had to call from the house and it took several "secret hiddening places" until they were located.

And THAT is the reason why I keep all money on my person now. Anything over $100 goes IMMEDIATELY into the bank. I used to carry $200 and $300 in tips around on me like it was nothing. DH kept begging me to stop. I finally did, thank goodness before it was too late. Sometimes I lock money in my arm rest, but it only stays for about 2-3 days at a time. I NEVER leave money in my car when it's being worked on...NEVER! For the very reason mentioned above.
I'm so sorry for you. I can understand your pain, I'm a server and I work hard for my money.

I left my digital camera with over 1000 trip photos on the MEARS bus on the way to the airport for the trip home. Of course, I didn't realize the camera was missing until the plane was about to taxi from the gate. Due to the Airline Security stuff, they wouldn't let me off the plane to look for the camera. I was able to use the cell phone from the plane (before we left Orlando) to call MEARS, and the Airport Lost and Found (I didn't know exactly where it had been lost).

The flight from Orlando to St Louis (our layover) was the longest flight of my life. I was just sure that $450 worth of camera, and a priceless collection of photos was gone. When we landed in St. Louis, I called everyone I could - the last being MEARS. The driver found it as he was "checking in" his vehicle at the end of the trip. They had it shipped back to me - and a disaster was averted.

It restored my faith in human kindness and honesty. That is why I will always recommend MEARS in the future (I was glad I gave the guy a $10 tip for two people - I always try to tip good).

My parents, who travel extensively, left all the money they had changed into Russian currency sit at home on one of their trips. They made do for several weeks on credit cards and ATM machines in Russia. The fees were expensive but they considered it part of the adventure! They always told us that travel teaches you to be resourceful. I am sorry that you had to turn around, at least it was at the first gas stop!

We had gotten some for our kids. Well.....my DH thought he had it for all three....nope only two. Luckily Bree was 17 at the time and we just gave her cash! When we got back and found it, we ran to the Disney store and bought something special for all of us.

I have had bad dreams lately that we forget to take along the kids Disney Dollars that they have been working so hard..... sure, we could just give them cash, but it's not the same!! I'm going to add that to my packing list right now...(doing the "34 days and counting" dance right now!)................P NEVER DID FIGURE OUT HOW TO ADD A TRIP COUNT DOWN TO MY POSTS!!!
