Well, he has been offered the position. AT 12.5 grand LESS than he makes now! :faint: :worried: ! I know he needs to get out of where he is at, commute is 2 miles shorter, pretty much a lateral (except for salary  ) si I guess he will have to seriously consider it....but I just don't know how we can take another hit financially like this. One of his reasons for finding new work is the 2 pay cuts he has had to take already. This new company seems to be financially sound tho, better off than current one. Oh I don't know...we will most likely have to sell, downsize...which is fine...except we were hoping to do that some place a little warmer! At what point have you done career damage by accepting a lower salary? We live west of Chicago and let me tell ya...giving up that kind of $ is going to take it's toll. It would for anyone. DD starts college in 4 years....how on earth am I oging to set aside for that? I have been working like crazy...as many clients as I can handle and still do quality work, I had 2 jobs last year and my kids suffered terribly. DH said that he was told 6 other employees from his company have applied at this new co., but that DH was the only one they even remotely considered. I think if that many guys from his current co. are looking to get out...he better take this and keep the search going. Time to add up all the red flags he has seen going up.
This is a mixed blessing, but SO scary...and we just rec'd out tax bill...jumped another $110 p year...over $6500 now...aarrrggghhhh!
Time to buy that mobil home and live on the road!

Pam

Sorry about the job information.

Have you heard anything about the job in Cincinnati. I don't know but I would think that the cost of living would be somewhat lower in OH. It is where I am in OH, Chicago housing prices are pretty expensive.

Good luck.

Pam, I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck to both of you with this decision.:sunny:

No word in Cincinnati, except that they are working on filling another position first, which will come into play during the hiring process for position DH has been interviewing for. So in other words, going nowhere fast. Based on the responses from you guys, I'm guessing you'd pass on this offer...that it is too much of a cut. Thing is, with the way the market is, what he was offered seems to be on par..and that he has been doing well so far...even w/paycuts...just really expensive to live here.Everyone kids that it is six-figure skeetville...meaning you are just getting by if you make over 100,000. And that's not a dual paycheck...nopressure here!
I don't know...tonight he will be negotiating his little heart out. Thing is, if this salary was offered to us just about anywhere else that we were hoping to move to we'd be doing the happy dance. We should count our blessings that he was offered it. The alternative of no check/insurance is a lot worse.

Kinda good news...after negotiations,,,they came up $7,500 and added a 15% annual bonus, one year from hire...'course we all know how THOSE can disappear... even with it in writing. We havn't seen one in over 12 years. Since we srill have not heard good or bad from Cincinnati I think he is going to take this. DH did get them to agree to a 6/14 starting date tho...to give him some time to scramble if we do get the other call! I am relieved for DH as he was in He** over there, but we are both deflated as we are really trying to move from here. Thanks for all the well wishes...MaryJo and Kim...keep your fingers crossed the other still works out!

We are in the same boat. With two lay offs in 1 1/2 years- the job market is really tough right now. We would love to stay in our town, but not much to choose from. One interview last week- job offer and it was 15K less. Most of the options for us is to move to another state, which was not in our plan. However, we are beginning to be more flexible and more faithful that God will lead us where we he wants us to be. Good luck to you guys. Hope things work out.

Can he call the people in Cincy and tell them he rec'd another offer? Will that help to hurry along their hiring process?

Good luck

I feel your pain... I'm living off less than half of what I made last year...

I survived it, though. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you pray your way through.

God bless,

Robinrs

My DH took a major paycut one time too and it was hard to adjust but we somehow muddled through it. Good luck!

Thanks all...
Pembo, he tried to get the recruiter in Cinci to talk w/ the company out there....but they run things their own way. It is foreign owned and DH has run into that from time to time...they just don't get /deal with the way americans do business. It is a pretty decent corporation tho, nothing against them, just a different way of doing things...hence, hiring when they feel like it...not realizing a 4month long (or more) process is not the usual. Muddle we will...:( hey, there are much worse situations going on in the world...time for us to buck up.

Pam

Good wishes coming your way, Pam (don't have to travel tto far either :)). What line of work is he in?

Continued good wishes, Pam. Cost of living here is much less. I guess that is why I am cheap and cringe at WDW dinner prices.:teeth:

In 2002, my dh's company (software consulting) downsized (and eventually closed their Chicago office) and he was laid off. Our financial situation took a SEVERE hit--as we had to use most of our hard earned savings and his unemployment checks to supplement my salary. When he finally found a job, he took a $23K paycut!! Believe me, that was scary. But we survived--and you will too. Good luck with your decision.
