Rematting DVC litho

Has anyone tried this? I thought it would be a lot cheaper to remat to a standard size frame (11x14) than to have this custom framed. But my litho, mat & backing seem to be attached. Has anyone taken them apart? Thanks for any advice.

We did not rematt our VWL litho, but what we did was probably much more cost effective (for our needs anyway).

I was shopping one day and saw a picture with a most beautiful frame and perfect color matting. I pulled out my measurements and tape measure, perfect fit! I bought the framed/matted print and removed their print and put in our litho.

The only snafu was the embarrasment that I suffered during the purchase. The print I bought was that famous 'Dogs Playing Poker' print, and I didn't even try to explain to the cashier why I was buying this tacky print.

It cost about $25 total and the frame and matting separatly would have been a bit more than that.

I received 4 matted prints from family. To have a custom frame made would have been big bucks. What I ended up doing was cutting the matt to fit the frame. Worked out fine.

This just cracked me up! I was thinking of having ours framed at Michael's, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I didn't think of looking at other framed prints. Are you sure you didn't put up that lovely dogs playing poker print? It's not the same unless it's on velvet.

Wow - I just mentioned this in another thread.

The VWL screams to be rematted. I didn't want to attempt it myself because I knew I'd wind up with a ruined litho, so I took it to a professional framer. (I don't know if you have a Rag Shop in your area, but their prices are very reasonable; at least once a month, custom framing is 50% off, so be sure to go then.)

The VWL comes with a blah beige mat. I had it rematted in a moss green mat. As they say on Trading Spaces, that really made it "pop."

I just had my SSR litho custom framed at Michael's and used one of their 50% off coupons.

I got the best glass they use and my total came to $63 and some change. Of course it depends on what type of frame you want.

I chose silver because it matches the decor in my home.

Wow, $63 is a bargain. I had no idea it would be that inexpensive. I had a large S/N print matted and framed 20 years ago and it was close to $200. But that was a very large print and the matting was double-cut and the frame was really nice.

I don't know why I said "VWL Litho" because it was not that litho. It was a large print that we bought at The Mercantile at WL of the WL from the rocks in the back facing the back of the hotel. Silly me....
