We loved the thread 'do you get depressed when you have to leave WDW' and reading all the similar thoughts.

We always talk about just staying (not coming back) while we are there. Very common for us to add onto the end of our vacation. Just wondering how many actually relocate to the Disney-area. From other thread seems a number do this.

Looking forward to your reply

Thanks :mickeybar

My family has been going to WDW for 20 years. My wife got a great job offer from a company in Orlando last summer. She wasn't looking for a job in Orlando it just happened to work that way. I think our enjoyment of WDW made a difference in her deciding to take the job. It's not why she took the job, but it was one of the factors. No offense to anyone in, say, Birmingham, AL, but I doubt she would have taken the same job there.

Basically just have to divide Orlando into two parts - WDW, Sea World, Universal, etc., and the real Orlando and surrounding communities.

The year before I moved to Orlando I came to WDW 9 times. I decided it was cheaper to move here than visit.

I love it here.

We have a home going up in Celebration, FL right now. We hope to close in April!

We are HUGE WDW fans and keep adding more visits/longer visits each year. I thought buying into DVC in 2000 would satisfy me enough, but not so :confused3 . I think if something came along (a winning lottery ticket would be nice :woohoo: !), we would give serious consideration to move to ºoº mecca! I've even done a little research on Orlando communities (Clermont looks nice) and housing costs (which actually are less than here in the Midwest :confused3 ). DH thinks GA would be good, but I told him if I'm moving south I'm not stopping until I see Mickey :mickeyjum !! One thing holding us back from doing something right away is the fact that our DS is a sophmore in a small private Catholic HS here (the same school DH and I graduated from many moons ago :rolleyes1 ). He LOVES the small community feel of the school, gets excellent grades and has some really great friends (we love having the kids hang out at our house, they are great kids :grouphug: ). He is very interested in Engineering and Purdue University (one of the best Engineering universities in the country) is literally in our back yard. Oh well, someday I WILL be driving my yellow VW bug (I told DH that I would have a yellow VW bug for my car when we live in FL :moped: ) with Florida plates on it :cloud9: !

We're leaving tomorrow to look at houses in the Orlando area. I'm trying to convince DH to move. Wish me luck! :cheer2: :wizard:

We moved from CT last August...Having a house built in Summerport...should be in soon!! :goodvibes

Up until dec. 03 I had lived my entire life just a mere 5 miles from Disneyland. Then i decided I needed a change for various reasons and decided to relocate to Central Florida. I did not move to Fl becasue of WDW, but i can say if WDw werenot here, i probably would not have come. I now live approx. 1 hour from wdw, whereas i did live 10 mins to Disneyland. I love WDW and i am enjoing Fl. altho i am missing Calif more and more, and wish i could return. I miss Disneyland desperately, but WDW is a nice substitute.

...and made the full commitment by moving, what do you do for a living? Got to pay for those passes somehow!

Dh and I always get clinically depressed (or at least it feels that way!) when we have to leave WDW! Our dd is 5 and she'll be at WDW for the 5th time in 23 days! Woohoo!! People think we're crazy and say there are so many other places to see and other things to spend $$ on, but we just LOVE it!

We hate to leave and we always talk about moving. The only thing stopping is is the kids. I worry sick about taking them away from their family. We are extremely close to my family and I want the kids to grow up with close grandparents. Now if we could just talk my parents in to coming with us!! Then we'd be set!

Two years after graduating from college, I got a job at WDW and moved down. I moved back home after 9/11. Recently my mom made the comment that if 9/11 had never happened, I would still be in Orlando. I'm finishing a Master's in Theatre History and Theory next winter, so I've started applying to Phd. programs in FL. I don't care if I'm in Orlando or not. I just want to be in the same state as WDW again! Also, it's currently 23 degrees where I am. I hate the cold! I want the sun so hot I melt into the pavement! Soon. . . I will be warm again. . . :sunny:

I moved to Ocala, Florida about 9 years ago when my parents decided they didn't want to put up with Chicago winters anymore. Over the past 5 years I have become a total Disney nut; my fiance and I recently became DVC members - he is just as crazy about WDW as I am :) . The town I live in - Ocala - is about 1 1/2 hours north of WDW. I don't think I would want to live much closer to the mouse and I know I wouldn't want to live any further away. I like being an hour's drive away because it still feels magical when we visit and when we return home anticipating the next trip. I think if I lived 10 or 15 minutes away it would lose some of its magic. I don't know just my opinion :)

If you don't live in central Florida or anywhere in Florida for that matter but are considering it - do it! It's a great place to live!!

:sunny:

I too, like the one of the other posters', thought that buying into DVC would help out. Nope. I still get very depressed every time I have to leave. My son and I were at WDW in Oct and we both decided that we wanted to move. I am now actively looking for a job in FL. Can't wait to be closer to the Mouse!! (Not to mention the weather. Bring on the heat! :sunny: )

we relocated here a few years ago from Illinois, but it wasn't just for WDW. we wanted out of Illinois. we had looked into CA, TX, AZ, and Florida. somewhere warm with playtime options. I have always wanted to live close to the ocean. it worked out, we're an hour from the orlando theme parks and have busch gardens close by. I wouldn't want to tell someone to relocate here just because of WDW. it's great being able to drive over for the weekend and take your time, knowing you've done it all and can do it again next weekend. but you lose a little bit in the process. it's hard to explain.

I was lucky that I could take my job with me. It didn't matter where I was located.

I agree with Sylvester. I'm on the other coast, a little more than an hour away. We've lived here for 15 years....Jersey transplants. It's always magical spending a weekend at Disney but it's not the same as looking forward to a trip when you're 1,000 miles away.....not that I would want it any other way. :teeth:

We moved here from the Chicago area in the fall of '97. Having vacationed at Disney every year for several years, my thought was how nice it will be to be able to visit Disney anytime I wanted.

We now all work at WDW :cloud9: and love every minute of it.

We're Jersey transplants too and made the big move in June. I'm extremely close to WDW and do spend a lot of time there. It would be perfect if everyone I knew and loved lived here too.

Every time we go to Disney I comment to DH about how much I would love to work there, how fun it would be, etc. If it weren't for the hot summers, I think I would do it!

Hi--

My husband moved here August 2004 and kids and I joined him June 2005. We moved from Lafayette, Louisiana. I stayed for the school year as my DD was a SR and we waited until graduation before moving.

We live really close to WDW, especially MK (Summerport). We can see the fireworks from here and we still watch them, though not as often as at first. I love the FL weather and our house. The only negative about the whole experience is the rush hour traffic on I-4 if you are going to the city of Orlando (or anywhere around there). We've been here a year and have travelled on I-4 less than 10 times!
