We currently live in the Hershey area. My H accepted a job in Warrendale. My S is just beginning HS, so this is toughest on him.

Any suggestions on a good quality HS with a solid boys' basketball program within a reasonable commuting distance to my H's new job?

I would look into Pine Richland and Seneca Valley school districts. Both very close.

You actually have a lot to pick from!

Warrendale sits just north of the North Allegheny School District. Overall they have some pretty good sports programs. Here is an article on their boys basketball team from 2013-2013: http://sportstown.post-gazette.com/...y-boys-basketball-team-falls-in-piaa-playoffs

You could also look at Seneca Valley or Pine-Richland. There is also North Cathollic Highschool (if you are Catholic and interested in that type of education) that is building a new facility just north of Warrendale.

Warrendale has a lot happening around it with good places to live and excellent school districts.

My best advice though is to buy a house in Butler County and stay out of Allegheny County. There is a big difference in taxes/fees.

Also, when you get to the area, check out Soergel Orchards for some great fall activities and delicious apples!

You'll be in a great location as Warrendale (in Allegheny County) borders both Butler and Beaver Counties as well. You'll pay higher property taxes in Allegheny County.

Can't tell you much as far as basketball programs but as far as school districts go:

In Allegheny County, look at Quaker Valley. Not only one of the best districts in the state but I believe it's one of the top 50 in the country. Bell Acres Borough would put you closest to Warrendale. Pine-Richland and North Allegheny school district are also close.

In Butler County, look at Seneca Valley and the Cranberry area. Cheaper taxes, the area has REALLY built up over the past twenty years, traffic can be an issue.

In Beaver County, Freedom Area School District, New Sewickley Township is closest to Warrendale.

Anything in those areas would put your DH right around a 15 minute or less commute.

Someone suggested Beaver Falls or Moon

Any opinions?

Beaver Falls is in Beaver County, lower taxes so there is that. They might have decent sports programs but I've never heard great things academically and the commute would be further. Cheaper housing. If you are thinking of going that far out, look into Beaver and Blackhawk school districts.

Moon is in Allegheny County, again, can't tell you much about their athletic programs. Good school district but you'll be at a much farther commute. It's in the southwestern suburbs. You are better off looking in the northern area and can find housing at comparable prices.
