We have decided to move to Miramar, fl. We are tired of winter and are ready to leave NYC

Any word of advice for moving? Any words of advice about the area?

we are waiting for the end of the school year then we are out of here :)

Have you considered checking out the employment situation in Florida?

Or are you retiring?

There are quite a few websites that could give you a lot of information- but I know that you're looking for the local's input.

Good luck with your move!!

Take us with you!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_5_28.gif' border=0></a> Actually, where is this? We want to move to central Fl when we can leave Arizona.

Pardon me AZKathy ~ but why would you want to leave AZ to move to FL? Nice hot DRY weather, versus hot sticky HUMID weather? Doesn't make any sense to me??

We decided on miramar for its location. Half way between ft lauderdale and miami. We wanted florida, but not to close to orlando. I also wanted somewhere with a night life and some culture. We also love to eat out and Miami is full of places to eat!!!

Employment is not an issue for us (fortunately). Schools are important and the local HS is a good one. I've heard good things about the elementary school also.

I can't wait!

If you have lived in the brown ugly desert all your life, you would want to leave also! I hate the desert! I hate brown! I want to go somewhere green! Certainly, there are other areas in this lovely country of ours to live, but we don't want to be in any snow or lots of rain like in the far NW or high cost of living like California. I want a green lawn! I don't want trees that have spikes on them for their leaves! I don't want to be checking my shoes for scorpions!

Gotcha AZKathy! Good luck on your plans to move!

I do understand since my DH had wanted to move to Vegas once but I remember telling him that I hated 'brown.' I just couldn't be happy living in that heat & humidity that FL offers either!! Guess we'd best stay in MI!!

HI Bouncey.

I was born in Miami, but lived in Hollywood/Davie most of my life, which is just up the road from Miramar.

I don't know much of Miramar, but I do remember that there were some neighborhoods there which wern't so great. And the high school was a little on the scary side when I was living down there (Miramar High), but since, they started a magnet program, so it has likely improved a bit.

You will find that the whole area just flows into itself, that is, there are no real distinct border between cities. Job prospects are decent. It is a very lively area and you will never be bored. You will also never be cold, so you may want to sell or donate you heavy winter coats. Though be prepared for lots of rain, especially in the summer. The Sunshine State is quite the misnomer.

Have fun!
