For the last couple of weeks I have been singing a few Lynyrd Skynyrd songs and pretty much driving everyone crazy with my renditions. I used to listen to LS while I was a teenager in the 70's and early 80's. I was frustrated by the fact that I no longer had those albums and no turntable to play them on if I did. Well, yesterday while in Best Buy I bought a CD with extended play versions of some of LS's greatest hits. I have been jamming! DS did not know that the car stereo could play so loudly. I had to be reminded that in this new century, there are "loud noise" ordinances and fines for playing your car stereo too loudly  . Gotta say, I took my chances. I have a feeling I will be looking up Neil Young next, even if " a Southern man don't need him around, anyhow".

Any other Skynyrd fans on the Dis? And if you don't mind my asking, what era did you listen to them?

Ya I get strange looks when I'm driving down the street in a mini-van and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap or Enter the Sandman is cranking out of the speakers.

Monkey boy-they are touring. They are in Wisconsin near Appleton this weekend.

When I kept seeing signs and posters last weekend,, I kept telling my kids how can they tour, Lynard Skyner is dead (the lead singer died near Alpine Valley in Wisconsin.

Hmmm, maybe I should go buy a New Kids on the Block or Debbie Gibson CD. ;)

Do you think people would look at me strange if I had Hangin' Tough or Electric Youth blasting from my SUV? ;)

nooo the original lead singer, a guitarist and a cpl other members were killed in a plane crash in mississippi oct of 1978,, i know i had tickets to the concert they were headed to play. Lynyrd Skynyrd was the name of ronnie van zant, allen collins and gary rossingtons high school gym teacher, he kept writing them up for the long hair.. they are from jacksonville fla, and ronnies baby brother johny has taken over lead singer duty. allen collins and few other band members have poassed away since the plane crash, but there have been over 20 different ppl p;lay as member s of LS current touring group has 4 members of hte original 1972 lin e up with them on stage and they no longer sing the lyrics to free bird, They all agreed that no one was able to sing that at a skynyrd show except ronnie van zant. they have ronnies mic and hat and t he original flag,, they place them center stage when the band plays the song. Lynyrd Skynyrd is my favorite all time band, and i am a long time fan,, i have the white dove 1978 t shirt that says lynyrd skynyrd kicks *** pon the front with in memory of ronnie van zant, andthe others listed onthe back, i also have t he t shirt they sent the fan club in memory of the guys. as a side note,, when skynyrd mentions muscle shoals hgas the swampers.. its a reference to another famous band that happened to be ronnies and johnnies middle brother donnie,, the swampers changed the name to 38 special when they got a record contract:)

Funny you should post about Lynrd Skynrd. I just read today in the paper where his 89 year old father...Laci I think his name is...died.
