Religion?

I would be Buddhist, but I see it as more of a philosiphy than a religion. So philisophically, I'm a Buddhist, but religiously, I'm Jewish. I believe in what the torah says, it just clicks with me for some reason. I wasn't forced into it, I actually had to get converted! I don't believe in hell. I believe that no love is a sin, and I believe God loves everyone. Even if you don't believe in God, or if you are Satanic, God still loves you. The only religion I can't take is Scientology. Scientology is a new age form of brainwashing. The other one is Mormonism. They think they want to save me? Save me from what? There's no hell to save me from!

Well, I should hope you should find Buddhism to be more of a philosophy than a religion because it is a philosophy and not a religion. That's how Siddhartha wanted it.

As for Scientology, I just don't get them. I really don't.

I was baptized Methodist, but I don't go to that church anymore. Everyone there were far too hypocritical for my familie's tastes.

I do strongly believe in God....just not all the issue that went on at that church. Maybe if we find a better one I'll start going back someday....

but not brought up religious...therefore, my parents just let me believe what I wanted to.
I think thats good when you are raised in a way that you can find your own way, which I think religion should be. I really don't like the idea of being taught about one religion from a young age as I believe religion should be a self-discovery not something that is taught (which is how I found my religious side).

Have you read the different version's?

i.e King James, New Living Translation, ect.

Different words, same meaning.

but when they were translated over to english there could have been huge mistakes. They have looked at the bible in some original languages and find that its got some parts that were translated completley wrong...

christian.

my mom's family is catholic.
my dad's is baptist and methodist.
i'm mostly non-denominational.
i've gone to all 3 churches.
right now i go to 3rd reformed church.

But when they translated it, they had many scholars working on it, not just one guy. Scholars today STILL look at the original version and today's versions to make sure everything is alright.

Whenever something is translated sometimes the original text gets changed through the translation (I can't remember the name of the book but it was in french and when it was translated into english the words were changed quite abit). Then the bible is from what I've seen read by people in many different ways (like some people accept people who are different...others call people the minions of hell because they have little differences (or you wear a certain band t-shirt)).

I'm glad the fighting on this topic hasn't been much too, as its a subject that could bring alot of arguements. I used to be very :snooty: to christians...but thats because most of the ones I met were the ones who preached their religion to me and when I said anything it was wrong and that I was a sinner and I will perish...but I realise not all christian's are like that there are nice ones.

Of course the words changed. If they didn't change the words, we would still be reading the Bible is Latin right now.

And um, really... we are all sinners. So are Christians.

I mean when they translated it they changed words in the english context so it would make more sense when translated (though I do realize now I don't explain things well haha).

While I agree (well to an extent as I don't believe in sins, I believe in the dual sides of everything) alot of christian's (the preach-y one and I'm sorry if what I say now comes off as arrogant or rude) seem to believe they are better because they aren't more "good" than others (well so they preached to me...but I never see them helping charity or any such thing).

Oh I understand now.

I also totally agree that Christians aren't any better than un-Christians. I mean, look at Ghandi. He wasn't Christian, but he was an amazing guy. Some of us do help charities out, and some of us do care about other people, most of us dont care about money, and most of us try to not come off as "preachy" or "holier than thou."

Ok, I agree with a lot of what people are saying
and some I don't but thats ok

I Do agree that the Bible was translated in many different ways but it says the same thing. Also I have read that people said (that rhymes!:goodvibes ) that the Bible could have been miss translated over the years, but God wouldn't let that happen! He wants us all to come into his kingdom and he wouldn't give us lies.

And this thing poped up about Christians being perfect or if you are a Christian you have to follow all of these rules and that is all what the Bible is, a big book of rules...thats not true. We aren't perfect. Our God is a forgiving God and loves us no matter what we do. All you have to do is ask for his forgivness. He loves you. Now if you do make the mistake and he forgives you, that means you will make a good faithful effert not to do it again.:goodvibes

Well if you're Catholic your also Christian.
For the most part Christian means you believe in Jesus, etc.

Catholic is just a denomination of Christianity, like baptist and methodist. although it has kinda changed a lot from the original Christianity. Catholics worship saints, Mary, and the usual Christian beliefs; and other denominations just worship the trinity (father, son, holy spirit)

I'm just noting we don't actually worship the saints and Mary, etc.
We use them to "pray through" to God.
If we worshiped them, that would go a bit against the first commandment.

Im a christian :)

I didnt know where to post this so ill kinda just add it here but my history teacher told me today that there is no such thing as BC(before christ) its now changed to BCE (before current era) no more AD its CE (current era)...and now the same people who really pushed those movements are now trying to get rid of the "In God We Trust" on all US currency...not meant to start arguements or anything just something interesting...

If this is already been posted....sorry
