Religion?

This whole "Religion is bad, we must remove God from everything in society" mantra annoys me. Then again, it also annoys me when people hide behind their religion to justify something.

Also I have read that people said (that rhymes!:goodvibes ) that the Bible could have been miss translated over the years, but God wouldn't let that happen! He wants us all to come into his kingdom and he wouldn't give us lies.

But it's happened anyway. For instance saying a certain phrase in English means a totally different thing in Spanish. Heck, between South American Spanish and European Spanish, there are huge differences. No one can truly translate EXACTLY what the Bible said into their language, it's pretty much impossible.

On that note, was the Bible originally written in Latin?

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, I apologize. =)

I just read all the replies and such having to do with what I posted, but I'm sorry if what I said didn't really make sense :/ And I could see where the confusion came in!

The New Testament was originally written in Greek, not Latin. I think that the Old Testament was Hebrew for the most part. I could be wrong on the Old Testament, but I know the New Testament was Greek.

The whole Bible was writin in many differant languages such as Greek, Latin, and hebrew.

(By the way, love your sign.!)

I'm technically Roman Catholic.

Although I'm beginning to question that.
I'm starting to lean towards Agnostic views and sometimes Jewish.

Im a christian :)

I didnt know where to post this so ill kinda just add it here but my history teacher told me today that there is no such thing as BC(before christ) its now changed to BCE (before current era) no more AD its CE (current era)...and now the same people who really pushed those movements are now trying to get rid of the "In God We Trust" on all US currency...not meant to start arguements or anything just something interesting...

If this is already been posted....sorry
To tell you the truth that is actually good though because...Because Jesus was born in BCE, the only way we know that is because when Jesus was born Herod was King but he died before the CE. Hope you understood that. But I think it is stupid to get rid of "In God We Trust" because the USA is populated with way more Christians than any other religion. And I do believe other religions have gods too. What gets me annoyed is how they are supposed to say Happy Holidays. Just say Merry Christmas and if the people dont celebrate that they should politely tell them that

I'm Christian.
I don't really live up to it, but I'm getting better though now that I volunteer at my church a lot. The people there are so great.

I really don't think that the USA has more Christians; a lot of people say that they are Christian just because they don't know what else to say. And I definately agree with you on the "Happy Holidays" thing. It makes no sense.

On the "Happy Holiday" thing. That's the PC thing to do. If I was an orthodox Jew I would not be happy if someone in retail told me Merry Christmas.

If you want to wish someone a good holiday, just say Happy Holidays. That way no one gets offended. :thumbsup2

Christians do. Telling us that our religion is no longer important. The USA was founded on Christianity, and now we are even allowed to call our holidays what we want to?!?!?

There are other holidays celebrated in the month of December. Your religion is important, but all religions are important. Hannukah is on Dec. 22 this year, Christmas on Dec. 24. If my religious family went to the store around those times and were wished a Merry Christmas, I'm sure they would be a bit peeved.

Um. Christmas is on the 25th. Every year.

Im just saying that the pilgrims cam to America to have religious freedom (that is, to practice Christianity) and now people can't even say "Christmas" without being un-PC.

Woah, I'm sorry.

Well, America is highly diverse. Christmas isn't the only holiday celebrated, and therefore shouldnt be the only wished upon people. Not everyone celebrates Christmas. Say Merry Christmas to those you know celebrate Christmas, but to those you don't, it's better to just say Happy Holidays so you don't offend them.

The population of this country is no longer 100% witch-burning Puritan.

Just clarifying.

But why should I forsake my religious rights to make other people happy?

And Columba (sorry I don't your name), I didn't say that America was "100% witch-burning Puritan." I'm just saying that just because their religions have popped up in America doesn't mean that we should change what we were based on. I mean, Muslims believe that killing people is alright, so if enough Muslims move to America, should murder become legal???

Because it's the polite thing to do. You think it's alright to offend people just because you practice a different faith then them?

Excuse me, not all muslims believe that killing people is alright. That was totally uncalled for.
