Hi I am a Southern Baptist.

1. Do you believe that humans are animals (which we are, I just know some Christians don't for some reason)?
No, I believe that those who believe in Jesus and the he is God's son are sons of God. Those who are unbelievers are creatures or animals, whichever you want to call it.

2. If you don't believe in evolution, do you believe that the Earth is as old as it is (4.5 billion years)?
Of course not, I dont believe a single word of the evolution theory. God created the world, and humans are not descendants of monkeys.

3.Do you dismiss the idea that life on Earth will end when the Sun turns into a red giant and will either burn up every living being or embody the Earth (I know that didn't sound very scientific but I'm not good at wording things)?
No, I believe what Revelation says. And revelation doesnt mention any of that.
THe world will begin to end when people start believing in a certain person instead of God, who will be called the antichrist.

I know something about Revelations as well... but I don't remember it well -_- (he was writing about the events going on at the moment... only one person has had their name added up to 666 and that's the Roman Emperor at the time he was writing it. Wish I knew it though -_-

I have actually never thought of Hell as pushing boulders, interesting. I do think of it as a fiery pit though.

I think of Heaven as a place that is cloud like. I imagine God and Jesus being there along with all of my loved ones.

Heaven is actually the new jerusalem.
Right now there is no heaven, its called paradise, its where saved people come to wait to go up to the new heavens. There will be a new heaven after the world ends.

I thought Paradise was the Islamic Heaven.

Another thought about Hell. Some say that Hell is living without God for eternity.

I keep thinking of some story... A man goes to Limbo and he's told he's going to Heaven. He wants to see what Hell is like before going. Everyone was seated at a table with loads of food and their hands can't reach the food. They have to use cutlery to reach it, but the cutlery is too long to feed themselves so they starve. Then he goes to Heaven and it's the same. The asks what's the difference and he says that those in Heaven feed each other, where those in Hell are too selfish to feed each other.

Something like that anyway.

Ah, of course. I agree.... wow, this thread is making me a little debate-crazy.

I suppose what really gets my goat is the complete misunderstanding of evolution (most use strawmen, logical falacies where the person creates a twisted version of evolution, and then says they do not beleive it based on that logical falacy) and people relying on the bible (a book re-written and re-written based on stories meant to control people that were robbed from other religions who robbed from even earlier religions that were in place to try to explain what people could not at the time) instead of just looking at the world for themselves and using their brains.

And what is everyones problem with being related to monkies!? (Note, we did not evolve from monkeys, we evolved from a common anscesor. We are more cloesly related to apes, anyway.) Are monkeys not good enough for people?

What's wrong with monkeys? How is being made from dirt somehow better?

Ah, 'Irreducible Complexity'. My favorite logical falacy.

Humans really are no more complex than any other animal. Our brain is the same basic organ as many other mammals, just bigger (besides, other animals are smarter than others, we just happen to be on top for this trait). This isn't always an advantage as a bigger brain means more resources needed by it. And other animals have better, and more complex, systems than us. Squids have a very complex skin system that alows for both color change and bioluminescence. The stomach system of a cow is far more complex than ours, a birds lung system is more complex. Other animals have better sight, better smell, better reflexes, ect. We have intelligence, but it doesn't really make us any more complex than another animal.

And evolution is how we all got so complex in the first place. You add trait upon trait, billions of traits for millions of years, and things can get very complex. Well, some organisms remain simplistic because they remain well-adapted. Others need to get more complex.

As well, no animal is completly perfectly adapted. Humans for example: Our eyes have a bundle of nerves in front of a receptor that cause a blind spot, by walking upright we have more pressure on our back and necks which causes serious problems. The human hip is the worst, for the possitioning it upright makes child-birth more painfull and dangerous.

All in all, things being complex only goes to support evolution, and not disprove it.

couldnt have explained that better myself... people are more complex only through their ability to think and reason and to use tools.. our brain is the only thing that is more complex than other animals really... physically however, there are tons of animals more complex then us.. throw us in a cage with tigers, wed totally get killed because they are just more physically able then us.... not to mention all the animals that harbor poison like snakes and such... if we truely were the most complex species overall, wed be able to take down ANY animal without any tools or weapons, and do some advanced calculus at the same time haha
