Are they still doing this? We are going in Feb and its around our 11 yr anniversary so it would be great! TIA

Sorry to report that they stopped doing that a few years ago.

1) Sadly, it died in 2005 due to Political Correctness.
2) It was pretty clever.
. . . a waiter would come out with the characters
. . . the waiter would perform a comical re-hitching ceremony
. . . he/she would pronounce you married again
. . . the characters would throw confetti

How is it politically incorrect to get re-hitched?

Do they do vow renewals anywhere?

Discontinued years ago. I tend to think it was more about cost-cutting than political correctness.

Yes, you can arrange a vow renewal through Disney (for a price). The Weddings board should have information for you.

Our first trip was in 2005, and this was one of the things we read about prior to our trip that was discontinued before we got there.

. . . nope
. . . the same personnel positions are there
. . . it was not a cost reduction

How is it politically incorrect to get re-hitched?
. . . they re-hitched folks since about 1993
. . . it was a funny & free vow renewal
. . . meant more as a joke/funtime that a true renewal
. . . any couple could ask for a re-hitching and get it
. . . whether they were married, dating or whatever
. . . especially popular for folks instead of $4,000 vow renewal
. . . now, until 2009, WDW did not do gay "weddings"
. . . so, some would use the re-hitching for a fun/pseudo ceremony
. . . WDW got lots of complaints from guests with kids
. . . so, GG cut out the ceremony rather than "marry" gay

NOTE: Other examples of "PC" changes at WDW
. . . women now chase men at Pirates of Caribbean
. . . Dixie Landings name changed to Port Orleans
. . . Song of the South not available in USA
. . . Removal of "Musket Mickey" from Fort Wilderness logo
. . . Removal of topless mermaid from Peter Pan ride
. . . Silhouette of Uncle Remus removed from Splash Mountain
. . . MK Train cabin burning by from Injuns to old man sleeping
. . . Jungle Cruise used to shot AT hippos, now it's a warning shot
. . . Ballad of Davy Crockett song from "trusty gun" to "trusty mount"

Sorry Rusty...but since they did away with the whole ice cream social and not just the "rehitching" bit, I'm still going with cost cutting, even over the inside info.

Am also going to take this opportunity to mention that discussion of weddings, vow renewals and political correctness thereof is off topic for this forum.

As a Canadian, not sure how refusing to have gay "re-hitchings" would be politically incorrect! Guess it depends on your politics!
