Regular hamburger and hot dog rolls

We shared a burger & fries at Rosie's in DHS yesterday. I might as well have ordered a bunless burger. And I don't believe this 'bun' is supposed to be healthier. It reminds me of wet cardboard. Yuck.

Mickey D's has it all over Disney on this one.

We are DEFINITELY getting healthier........cause we dont eat any burgers anymore in the world. (just other foods) Breaks my heart too because I loved their burgers and they really werent greasy as most of them are flamed broiled and the fat goes down .....
Hubby suggested we bring a container with some REAL burger buns and when we want one bring out the buns.

OMG, can you imagine if some big muckety mucks were there and you did that??? It would be priceless!

Such a great thread. We found this same thing on our trip this past spring. All the buns were dry, tasteless and fell apart. By contrast, we were SO HAPPY to have real buns and tasty burgers when we got to Universal it felt like a luxury. Come on Disney....these buns are pathetic. It has seriously made me reconsider our dining choices for our next trip. yes--I find the buns that bad. My kids are already picky eaters and have food allergies. Without a decent burger or hot dog option, my kids dining choices are even more limited.

First they get rid of the good weenies at Casey's...now the buns are falling apart. What's a girl to do??? (Sounds like a bad adult movie!) :lmao:

Our last trip, it was so much of a concern for us that we're seriously considering bringing our own bread-products into the parks and asking for no buns. It has nothing to do with it being healthy... taste... I just hate how they fall apart!!! I love to slather things in ketchup so you can imagine how I have a harder time eating things.

In hind sight, places that have double cheeseburgers are places that we'll save some money since we can just have a patty each.

The guy in that movie ate as much as was humanly possible at McDonald's three times a day for a full month. No wonder he got the result he wanted to convey.

But many places that serve food are seeing the writing on the wall and converting to what the "food police" term "healthier" items. Disney apparently is struggling trying to find the medium between "healthy" fast food that can be provided for dining plan prices - that Americans will also eat.

And no, you can't request different buns. They likely do, however, keep stuff onhand for those with food intolerances - but I am not sure those items will turn out to be regular white buns in any particular place.

You might find it on old threads here or on a google search, but at some point Disney was lambasted by either the Surgeon General or a private group for serving the most unhealthy meals in the business - and their first move was to change ALL the children's meals over which Disney had control to items like cold grilled chicken strips, raw vegetables, chicken pizza on whole wheat pita, no french fries, sugar-free gelatin, apple slices or yogurt for dessert, etc. That worked for a few months before the onslaught of complaints from parents whose kids preferred typical "kid food" changed it, so Disney's working in increments now - wheat bread instead of white, french fries not provided automatically with kids meals (you have to ask for them).

And now there is the switch from beef hotdogs to beef/chicken hotdogs (I bet those are cheaper too)
They are much cheaper and not any healthier. They are loaded up with garbage such as mechanically seperated chicken=organ meats and stuff that should be thrown out. I will take my "unhealthy" which all hotdogs pretty much are anyhow all beef hot dog any day over that junk.

this is a great thread.......Hubby announced that we WILL bring a pkg of white hamburg buns when we go next year.....because we love burgers at the world. I will pass the bun and ask them to warm it up a bit on the grill with the other buns and I will pick it up at the end. Otherwise it is the chicken pieces that we love too......wonder how they would get rid of those too......GEESH.

Hate to tell you this, but for sanitary reasons I will bet that they will not warm up a bun that you give them at a CS grill, because I don't think they're allowed to let outside food into the food service areas. They won't even take the refillable mugs into food service areas to fill them up for that reason (in the places that didn't have communal drink dispensers).

Kind of off topic, but they still have great hotdogs at Universal.
They have Nathans hotdogs with all the regional options.

I really wish Disney would get their act together when it comes to hotdogs.
I really miss the hotdog carts at world showcase and main street.
That was always a must do for me and my family.

I have not had a hotdog in Disney for years and I really enjoy a good hotdog.
You would think this is one thing you can not screw up without trying to.

Wow....I didn't know this was a real problem. I thought I just had bad luck last time! I ordered a chicken sandwich from that little cart in Adventureland. Would have been a great sandwich, except the bun totally disintegrated the minuite I touched it. It was such a mess I couldn't even eat more than a few bites. I ended up throwing it away.

Today I asked my DD11 if she had to choose WDW or Universal. She thought for a while and then said Universal. I asked why and she said she doesn't like the food at Disnay. The burgers and hot dogs have icky buns and she doesn't like the plain applesauce and carrot sticks with everything. She said Universal has the really good burgers and hot dogs and their spaghetti and pizza is awesome.

This is the lasting impression Disney wants to leave on the younger generation? :confused3 I don't think this is what makes "dreams come true." I have so many fond memories as a child that involved eating my favorite foods, with my loved ones, at special places. Whether it was grandmas homemade spaghetti or Phily steak hoagies or tasty giant pretzels...it made the occasion more special and unforgetable. Serving this "healthy" tasteless food is NOT going to add to the experience at Disney but it will put a check in the negative column when deciding where to go on vacation.

I applaud Disney for having healthy options. But that is what it should be - an OPTION. I dont go to Disney to diet. Give me a big ol' beef hot dog on a white flour dusted bun and a big ol' side of fries, Lord knows we do enough walking there to burn it off!

:scratchin you know, now that you mention it...............
the same folks that supply disney with rolls must be at my local store as
it happens to us. all. the. time.

you're probably right Nala but at the CS in the resorts I can put that bun in the toasters or the microwave with the burger and get it going....I am thinking of what hubby said last night when I told him about this thread.......we are doing white buns for our trip...

We eat really good at home, and I dont want someone telling me I cant have what tastes good in the WORLD.

all these bun threads have definitely changed my MK lineup.

growing up, we never ate at any of the TS restaurants when visiting the parks. everytime we were there, though, i got a hotdog from casey's. it's a thing of nostalgia for me.

seeing a picture of the hamburger bun was enough for me.

i hope everyone takes pix of their brokedown buns to post here, and on every message board and blog. make it embarrassing. if their casey's sales plummet... wouldn't that be a sign? i know there are plenty of folks who would never know the better that never see a message board, but lots of folks talk. no one knew about free dining a few years back. now i can mention it to anyone, disney fanatic or not, and they know about free dining!

If you want a really good pizza at Universal take the boat over to the Portofino.
The pizza at Sal's is very good and they have a brick oven.

Haven’t been there in a year, but it has always been good.
To be honest I have not had any really bad food at Universal.
I was surprised how good the quality was when I took a day trip over, especially after a few days in Disney.

Sal's pizza is great, and so is the food in "The Kitchen" at the Hard Rock hotel. Jeff had the chinese crispy chicken salad (served in a collander!) and I had the meatloaf. OMG so good! The girls had Kids steak, really good stuff.

I'd like to think this will happen.
I have read that even the staff at these location complain.

At the end of the day though I do not think it will affect sales all that much.
So many people are on the DDP they will just take what is given and not complain.
I gave up complaining to Disney years ago, they really are not all that interested.

In the end the lousy buns (and new lower quality hot dogs) will become a memory that people associate with Disney like the lousy coffee and they will look for the bad buns. ;)

I can't believe how many people accept the bad coffee and consider it a positive memory of Disney even though they say it is bad.

Totally 100% agree -- it should be an option! To add to that, I've had very good wheat buns that held up & tasted great - maybe Disney should contact Chick-fil-A to get the supplier of their wheat buns :rotfl:

I agree; we won't be eating TS, but instead of Pecos Bills, we'll be opting for either Columbia Harbour House for fish or Cosmic Ray's for some ribs & chicken (no burgers for us)!
