So I am a complete exercise/marathon newbie but that is all about to change. I decided that this new year will be about change..Im off to find the inner athlete in me and signed up for the 2010 half marathon. As of now my plans are to walk if not crawl it :rotfl2: and to lose at least 75lbs before the marathon. so are my plans Goofy..Dopey..??!! I dont know but Im all about a challenge so here we go.......

I saw they opened up the registrations for wdw 2010 and wanted to let all of you know and to introduce myself and to say hi and that Im looking forward to getting to know all of you much much better this next year!!!

I decided to start a weekly blog to share my new adventure with family and friends so please feel free to stop by and say hi.

Hi! Congratulations on a great attitude and lifestyle change!!!

I just registered for the Goofy! See ya there.

I am planning on doing the Half again next year. (Just have to wait on the income tax rebate check to pay for it. Spent all of my money while I was there this weekend.)

Let's have another great outing and show these people who the WISH boards are!!

Thanks everyone for the awesome amount of support!
Bryan

fluffernutter - I am entering the half today too! And am a newbie as well. We did the Circle of Life 5k this past weekend and it was so much fun, it definitely put a fire under me to want to try the half and get in better shape this year. The energy of the entire weekend was great. I will be following your journey, and be sure and share tips along the way.

Many people have suggested this site for starters: http://www.c25k.com/

Good luck! :goodvibes

Hey! Congrats on signing up! I'm 99% sure I'm going to sign up for the half within the next few hours... :D

I need help! I am trying to register and it keeps bouncing back because I need to answer the following:

Attention! "Race result since 7/1/2007 that supports your finish time." required!

Ok, I have never raced! so what do I put in so I can complete my registration?

I'm going to do the full!:rotfl:  :scared:

I'm going to join Team in Training. Do I need to sign up now or just join them and they will sign me up. I'll be giving them a call in a bit to see if they can answer my question.

I will be going Mickey next year. No more Goofy's. It was fun, but it surpassed the pounding my ankles, feet & hips could comfortably accept.

Surprisingly enough, my knees feel fine.

I'll be the usual bike medic guy for the Donald and run the Mickey.

See
You
There!!!

If you are registering for the Half and put down a time faster than 2 hours 45 minutes or for the full and put down a time of 5 hours, then it is going to ask for proof of time. When I registered for the Half, I put down a time of 2 hours 50 minutes and it didn't ask a thing. I finished at 3 hours 7 minutes due to a little stupidity on my part but I was on my way to a 2 hour 30 minute finish. Just change your time and you will be fine. But don't put the slowest time or you will be put in the last corral and have no buffer.

Hope that helps!

Thanks,I have so much respect and admiration for those of you that do the Goofy. It is truly incredible for a 5K alone but to see those that do the full and/or a goofy,it is mindblowing to me being a novice and all. See ya there!

Hey Bryan-Congrats on finishing this marathon and I hope to see you there in January!!

I kind of jumped into the Princess Half that way myself! If you haven't already, check out these books. They helped me realize that a half marathon...maybe even a marathon! are within my reach.

Good luck with your training!!

Thanks for the links,I ordered 2 of those books last night from amazon and they should be here tomorrow.I cant wait to start reading up on how to do this safely.
That is awesome that you signed up for the Princess half the same way and look its almost here. I just read about it last week so I really would have no time to even prepare for it..more so mentally, lol so I set my goal for next January. Cant wait to hear your experience with the half and hey maybe you will decide to do the 2010 as well :)

Congrats on doing the 5K and how exciting to be signing up again for 2010cant wait to see you there after the next year of "training together"

That is awesome! I also thought about team in training..not sure what you have to do to sign up. I dont think I would be able to fundraise this year for them so Im probably going to do this on my own and then just donate to them privately. We did alot of fundraising to being our daughter home from China, so I really cant ask anyone right now to help me do this.

See you there!!!,and kudos to you for accomplishing the Goofy. That is awesome. Is the Donald the half and Mickey the full?

eeeek! not yet! I'm starting to psych myself out! I know I could walk this but now I'm trying to figure out logistics... how long to go....how to pay for a trip to Disney...etc..etc! I guess I should just register and get that out of the way? I did read that if I can't do 2010, my fee carries over to 2011? :confused3

see so thats a way to do it..plan now...worry later, lol
hey it will give you a year to plan and like you said it does carry over.
take a walk on the marathon side, lol
see how giddy I am..and I never did one before..just wait Im sure till it all hits me that I will be one of you next year (atheletes),:worship:

Hate to break it to you but you read it wrong. The fees are not transferable and do not carry over from year to year. The only thing they will do for you is, if you let them know in writing by a certain date that you will be unable to participate, they will hold a spot for you in the next years race...you would have to pay again for the race though.

I will say that once you commit and register, it is a great incentive to follow through with a big, hairy, audacious, goal...

GO FOR IT!

Brayn, thanks for your help! I put in 3 hours for a finish time and it still wants proof. Maybe I should start from scratch.

Going to try the Goofy again next year but I am waiting for the DVC link. I called today and was told it should be up sometime soon, but not sure when. I said don't wait until after its full.

I got through! DH and I are officially signed up. :scared1: What is the difference when you sign up thorugh the DVC link?

You get a few bucks off with your DVC membership. I was able to last year, you have to mail it so I was a little worried but as the price goes up, every little bit helps.
