1. Do you come from a city where a sphere sits somewhere in your city? I dont. I cant think of many places in the world that have that sort of building, and anyone saying that it looks 'naked' without the wand, needs to take a step back and remember that it is an amazing structure within itself. It doesnt need extra flash, it IS flash.

2. Have you ever ridden Spaceship Earth? I know youve fallen asleep on it. But have you ridden it? I almost always exit that ride feeling a sort of closeness with the world around me. And always astounded that I never think of communication and how it really effects our world. I get chills, THINKING about the music that plays as you're going backward. Yes the ride mechanism itself is old and sometimes faulty.

3. Everyone has a different opinion... but please dont liken those of us who like removal of the wand, to 'Star Trekkies'. Im no Disney purist, but I remember seeing the ball as a kid and it taking my breath away like the castle. I still cant wrap my mind around the fact that there is a ride in there, and when Im in there that im sitting in that structure. Its amazing.

The wand was an eyesore. The Magic Kingdom doesnt have a big banner on the castle that says 'MAGIC KINGDOM'. You should know where you are, not need a weenie within a weenie to draw your attention to somethings thats 180 feet tall.

Also - ive never, ever seen it as a golf ball. Golf balls are white, not silver. And have indents in the shape of circles, not triangles. Its a symbol of the future that the 80's dreamt up. And its nostalgic for me.

I dont mind if you dont like it, but on something you cant change ... why not try to view something about it positivly? Or at least try to look at it from another perspective.

The wand and "2000" were put up for the millinium celebration. After the celebration, the "2000" was taken down but the wand stayed up. Since the wand was originally inteded as a temporary addition to Spaceship Earth, it was not intended to be up as long as it had. It had reached a point that Disney would either need to make adjustments to the wand to make it permanant or take it down. The cost to make the adjustments were too great and the decision to take it down was made.

...so if cheap tacky looking exposed steel frame with 2D mickey hands and lettering screams Disney, then you're CORRECT! Actually the Crane doesn't look much different than the structure that was there before.

They could tack on the Epcot letters and mickey hand and raise and lower the crane every few hours to make recent visitors realize what park they're at!!!

I've said it before, you don't add glitter and a huge sign that says "INDIA" to the Taj Mahal, or "FRANCE" to the Eiffel Tower.

They could put the wand at DCA because that's the park it would fit in nicely, cheap, ugly, and of the same era.

As the guy who started all this....I say the following...

1) I am not a troll, or whatever that is...i have a job and a family, and therefore can not engage in a multi-day discussion. (for those that did not call me a troll i apologize for this comment as i am sure you have a job and a family too)

2) I too am a lifelong Disney fan who has the same credentials as anyone else on this board...ie....i have spent 40% of my income at disney.

3)Yes I come from the comonwealth that elects kennedy every 6 years, and I am proud to do so....It is also in my humble opinion a great place to live and raise a family.

4) The pictures of what to do with the golf ball are hilarious!!!

5) I still think a giant fixed statue of Tiger woods getting ready to tee off is the best way to handle the "largest geodesic, goesomething, spherical, circular, object in the world"......so does that mean that place that has the largest rubber band ball is a special place???......I mean if it where that impressive someone else would have built one, right....I mean I dont think there are many people wondering where the biggest golf ball in the world is located......My neighbor has the biggest gas grille in the western hemisphere. anyone wanna come take a look????

I never said...."thrill ride"....i said "attraction".....please, carousel of progress is a comedy!!!!....that song is like a virus that takes over your mind and spurs one to madness.

I love all the rides at disney, but spaceship earth is awful for where it is located, the centerpiece of the park....how about a roll call for all those that have fallen asleep on spaceship earth!!!

But honestly, I was all for the change of them taking down the wand to commemorate 25 years, and then of course, I am hoping they put something else up. I really do agree it looks barren.

That said, I love IASW. A lot.
