I can think of no better place to lodge my complaint, (because no one else cares)

Why in the world would disney think it is a good idea to remove the magic wand from the Epcot ball....they had finally found something that distinguished the sphere. It was well lit up and made for a landmark you could see from other parts of the park.....we are now left with what we started with...A golf ball sitting on a tee!!!

I hate it when these things get over thought....A bunch of disney fanatics resembling a group of star trek conventioneers complain about the sanctity of the worlds biggest golf ball that houses the worlds worst ride.....I got an idea, how about we get the PGA tour to sponsor that hideous ride and we can build a giant tiger woods satue above the ball and he can be preparing to tee-off!!!!

these are the same people that find a way to keep the "carousel of progress" open, instead of a ride or attraction born of this century. If i ever decide to throw myself off a bridge, I will be singing "its a great big beutiful tommorow" all the way down!!!....the one good thing is I continue to have a place to take a 20 minute nap in the middle of the day besides "its a small world".

I mean c'mon, clearly we need to remove the sorcerers hat from MGM because it wasn't there when the park opened....I mean we must return the sanctity of that completely barren space!!!!

well, just had to get that off my chest....I feel better now

:lmao: Glad you got that off your chest. A couple of answers spring to mind.

With any thing Disney, some folks loved it-some folks hated it. I would love to see the original post when the wand was first unveiled.

With any thing Disney, this too has run it's course. I don't think the wand was ever intended to be permanent.

I agree. The Epcot ball looks terrible and plain. Boring might be a good word. I wonder what they will try to do to it next.

So anything that isn't a thrill ride has to go? CoP, SSE, IaSW and many attractions like them(even Indy Speedway which I recently declared WDW's largest waste of space) are enjoyed by millions every year. Maybe give Cedar Point a try...you'll love it.:rolleyes1

I never said...."thrill ride"....i said "attraction".....please, carousel of progress is a comedy!!!!....that song is like a virus that takes over your mind and spurs one to madness.

I love all the rides at disney, but spaceship earth is awful for where it is located, the centerpiece of the park....how about a roll call for all those that have fallen asleep on spaceship earth!!!

Well...I was with you until you bashed CoP and then you went on to talk about the Sorceror's Hat. The wand didn't bother me at all, and I was one of the few who actually liked it, thinking it added color and a subtle Disney touch to the whole sphere -- I know, I know, many of you will say "Subtle?", but I never thought it was gaudy one bit.

I'm a fan of CoP, and, to be honest, what's wrong with a ride that my grandmother loves?

As for the hat, I like the look of it a lot, but I hate that it's just a place where they sell pins. Plus, I loved the fact that the landmark used to be the Chinese Theater -- it symbolized old-time Hollywood to me. If the hat were at the very entrance, I'd be all for it. Still, I'm not as much of a hat-hater as others, but I don't love it.

I forgot to add that I would not mind seeing Carousel of Progress gone. I think it is a snoozefest. Great place to relax, but I bet Disney can make better use of the space.

Oh, I don't know...I think the crane adds a little something to the pic! :confused3

I actually thought the wand was neat too, since I've never seen the ball without it (until now).

Why don't you tell us how you really feel. Just put it all out there. It's not healthy to hold all that emotion inside;)

I like the ride but I have to admit one of favorite things about it is the nap I take everytime on the way back down!!:rotfl:

Spaceship Earth and Carousel of Progress are "must do's" for us-pure Disney
nostalgia.
We LOVE the catchy song "It's a great big, beautiful tomorrow"-I'll be in singing that all afternoon!:thumbsup2

I guess I have to register my complaint with this thread. :)

I love CoP. It is one of my favorite things on this planet. I'd like to see it rehabbed and the story updated, but I cherish it.

I hated the wand. Hated it. It was totally non-thematic, tacky, and an eyesore. I detested it when it was put up in 2000 or whenever it was, and that dislike never faded for me. The reason the big ball was bare when the park opened was that the ball was supposed to represent Earth. Putting a big flashy sign that first said "2000", and then "EPCOT", did not look much at all like Earth.

I love the ride Spaceship Earth. Yes, it has gotten stale in the story, like CoP, but it is worth the major rehab it is getting. It's one of our family's favorites.

And yes, I'd like to see the hat gone from MGM. I don't think it's that ugly or anything, but I do feel it's a waste of space.

My family loves IASW. Yes, it gets old to me, but not to my little girls. The expressions on my girls' faces makes this ride for me.

Not every ride needs to be a white-knuckle thrill ride. If you want that, there are plenty of parks that offer it.

So I just want to register my complete and total disagreement with every single point the OP made. :thumbsup2

*takes a deep breath*

1. Do you come from a city where a sphere sits somewhere in your city? I dont. I cant think of many places in the world that have that sort of building, and anyone saying that it looks 'naked' without the wand, needs to take a step back and remember that it is an amazing structure within itself. It doesnt need extra flash, it IS flash.

2. Have you ever ridden Spaceship Earth? I know youve fallen asleep on it. But have you ridden it? I almost always exit that ride feeling a sort of closeness with the world around me. And always astounded that I never think of communication and how it really effects our world. I get chills, THINKING about the music that plays as you're going backward. Yes the ride mechanism itself is old and sometimes faulty.

3. Everyone has a different opinion... but please dont liken those of us who like removal of the wand, to 'Star Trekkies'. Im no Disney purist, but I remember seeing the ball as a kid and it taking my breath away like the castle. I still cant wrap my mind around the fact that there is a ride in there, and when Im in there that im sitting in that structure. Its amazing.

The wand was an eyesore. The Magic Kingdom doesnt have a big banner on the castle that says 'MAGIC KINGDOM'. You should know where you are, not need a weenie within a weenie to draw your attention to somethings thats 180 feet tall.

Also - ive never, ever seen it as a golf ball. Golf balls are white, not silver. And have indents in the shape of circles, not triangles. Its a symbol of the future that the 80's dreamt up. And its nostalgic for me.

I dont mind if you dont like it, but on something you cant change ... why not try to view something about it positivly? Or at least try to look at it from another perspective.

You liked it and think it should have stayed.

I hated it since the day they put it up and I'm glad its gone. (don't get me started on painting the supports to make it look like the graveyard belongs)

I hate Star Trek and worlds worst ride? You must never have been on the Finding Nemo Mind Numbing.

As far as "distinguishing the sphere" what from all the other 180 feet high, 165 foot in diameter geospheres in Lake Buena Vista?

I don't really mind the Hat at the studios just don't like where they put it.

Oh and GO PATRIOTS

. . . 3. Everyone has a different opinion . . . I remember seeing the ball as a kid and it taking my breath away like the castle. I still cant wrap my mind around the fact that there is a ride in there, and when Im in there that im sitting in that structure. Its amazing . . .

Agreed!

I am originally from MA so I will say GO PATS....other than that can't say I agree with you. I liked the wand on SpaceShip Earth BUT I can also understand bringing it back to its original way and I like it that way as well.....as for COP....LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! I don't think it is Disney fanatics that got the wand removed....that was not suppose to be a permanent fixture. Not everyone has the same opinions and likes, so we can all vent and have out opinions heard......Can't wait to see the "golf ball" and COP next month...I'll be singing that song all day long! :)

Complaint duly noted and registered. However… being the first (and I believe, still the largest) geodesic sphere built isn’t distinguishing enough? The building needs a wand, too? And like grimley1968 said – don’t you go attacking my Carousel of Progress! grimley wasn’t around yet when it was first presented – at the 1964-1965 World’s Fair in New York. I was. Disney closes that attraction, they lose me as a customer. So there. Rant over.

Hey, hey, HEY!!!! I LOVE Carousel of Progress! And I love Spaceship Earth! It is perfect for where it is. If you do feel like catching a nap on SE, please don't snore, and wipe up your drool before exiting the ride. Thank you!

:)

I strongly believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so although I respect yours, I personally don't agree.

Spaceship Earth happens to my absolute favourite ride in all of Disney. The wand was a nice touch, I think, but then again so was the '2000' sign.

CoP is also a family favourite, and we'll ride it up to five times each trip. I would be severely disappointed if it ever closed down.

Also... I agree with CoPirate
