Registering an infant for "All Ages" port adventure

I am trying to make reservations for port adventures for an upcoming Western Caribbean Disney Cruise. However, when I try to add my 1-year-old niece to a couple of "All Ages" excursions, her named is grayed out accompanied by an "age restriction" notification. There is no charge listed for infant price in the excursion description.

How do I go about getting her included on these family outings? Is she simply not permitted? Do I register my sister- and brother-in-law for the adventure and just have them show up with their daughter? Will they be turned away if they do? Do I have to call DCL beforehand? If so, who should I talk to?

Thanks in advance.

If the ages listed for participation says "all ages" then there should be a price (by age groups) for each age. What excursion are you asking about?

Sometimes an excursion will be All Ages, but there is no cost for someone under, say, 3. In that case, you don't have to "sign" them up. Other times an All Ages excursion will require an under 3 to sign up (with no charge) because they need to have an exact count of bodies on the excursion.

The two I'm looking at include:

Cozumel Ruins and Beach Tour - All Ages: Infant Price $0 (ages 0 to 2)

Grand Cayman Island Tour - All Ages: Infant Price $0 (ages 0 to 2)

As I said, my niece's name is the only one grayed out in the party of 9 and it says "age restriction" on her cabin. It just seems weird to me that, whether they need her head count or not, she seems to be expressly excluded from signing up. I just don't want there to be a problem if she "shows up" without being registered, even if there's no charge.

Alternatively, there is an excursion (Horse and Carriage at Good Hope Estate) that some in the party are going on with an age restriction of 6 and up that lists prices for children 3 to 9 ($45) as well as infants ($0). I'm comfortable assuming the one-year-old wouldn't be allowed on this adventure but confused as to why they list an infant price at all?

Thanks!

Responding to the last question first, it's possible that the excursion operator has those age/prices available if the excursion is booked privately (not through the cruiseline). DCL can (and does) have age restrictictions that are more prohibitive than the actual ages that the provider might have. It's purely a liability thing.

As for the other two, it could be the same thing, but I'd send an email inquiry and ask why the 1 year old can't be selected in spite of (as far as you can tell) her being eligible to participate. I suggest the email, because then you have something in writing telling you "yes she can come" if that's what they say.

Just go to the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the DCL website and fill in the information and question. Typically they get back to you within a day or two.

And, go ahead a book the excursion for everyone else, that way it won't fill up before you get the answer. You can always cancel if she won't be allowed to go, with no charge up until 3 days prior to your cruise.

We cruised with our extended family in 2011. DH and I took the grandkids with us on an excursion. They were 2 and an infant. Their names were grayed out. We just showed up with them and two strollers and no one had a problem with that. This was an All Ages excursion and there was no cost for children under 3.

If it is truely an all ages excursion with $0 cost then you don't register you < 3 year old and just show up with them. If it is a boat tour there is a charge for < 3 and you will register them to pay for their ticket. I've done multiple excursions with my daughter who is < 3 on "all ages" excursions and never had a ticket for her and never had any problems or issues.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies.

I emailed Disney Cruise Line, as suggested, before reading reports of no one else having a problem. I'm a dot-the-i's and cross-the-t's kind of guy so having confirmation from DCL will make me feel better anyway. I'll let you know what the word is when I receive it.

I'm sure there are reasons why they do it this way, though it would seem just as easy to include the infant in the reservation. I was just nervous when it said I couldn't choose my niece due to an "age restriction" when there were none indicated for those particular port adventures. I would have just hated to be ready to go and then be told that the infant wasn't allowed and the whole group might have to forfeit the trip. The fact that another excursion we were interested in had an age restriction of 6 and older but still listed infants as free caused further confusion.

I'm sure it is probably for head count purposes but I'm just not quite sure why the guest should assume that. Glad it's worked out for everyone! Thanks.

Just wanted to follow up with the response I received from DCL regarding infant excursions ...

Dear Matt,

Thank you for choosing another Disney Cruise Line vacation!

I would be happy to assist you.

Cozumel Ruins & Beach Tour (CZ-19)
Available for all ages (no charge for children under 3-no ticket issued)

Grand Cayman Island Tour (G-17)
Available for all ages (no charge for children under 3 – no ticket is
issued)

You do not select Alexie when booking the above excursions, because she
is under 3 years old and does not need a ticket.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

Matt, we look forward to sailing with you and your family!

Have a Magical Day!
