I just found out that someone I distantly know, who I know for a fact is a DVC member, is also a registered sex offender who attempted to solicit a young girl online by sending her obscene material of himself. There was an article about him getting busted along with his photo, so there's no chance this is a case of mistaken identity. He was convicted as there was overwhelming evidence, but he is no longer in prison.

I don't know if he bought points before or after his conviction. When I found out, I just felt... I don't know, icky.

Some theme parks deny offenders, Disney is NOT one of them. Unless the court specifically stated that the offender could not go to a place where children are, they have a right to be there.

Many sex offenders do not have any restrictions once they have served their time.

What does the fact that he owns a timeshare have to do with the fact that he is a sex offender? Because it is at Disney? The fact that it is Disney has nothing to do with it. There are young girls at the beach and ski resorts also. Would it be less icky if he owned a timeshare somewhere else?

Don't get me wrong, what he did is disgusting, but it has nothing to do with DVC.

Yeah, you make a really good point. I mean, "bad" people are everywhere whether we know it or not. I don't know why it struck me as odd. Maybe because Disney has a larger than normal number of children visiting I guess? I do think it would be less icky (my word, ha) if he owned a timeshare elsewhere, but I cannot justify why. I try not to be a judgmental person, but this just rubbed me the wrong way I guess.

Awful people are everywhere. I'm sure plenty of the day guests at Disney wandering around the park are ex-cons who served their time for everything from petty crime to sex crimes to assault and on and on.

Given that there are what, over a hundred thousand DVC contracts out there, I'm sure he's not the only registered sex offender who is a member. There's no law that says they can't own timeshares that are associated with family oriented theme parks, and Disney doesn't do background checks or morals investigations on people before they buy in to DVC. So there's really not much that can be done about it.

Among the thousands who visit Disney parks every day, I'm sure there are lots of truly awful people. Pedophiles, people who beat their wives and children, people who steal from their churches, people who mistreat their pets.

Just like any other public place.

All you can do is look out for your own family.
