Is anyone going to see Regis and Kelly in Charlotte next week? My sister and I want to go but they are not offering tickets anymore. :guilty:

I would love to hear from anyone who is planning on attending the show or anyone attending the premier of 'Cars'.

I don't watch R&K so I didn't realize they were coming here but I really really wanted to to take my kids to the Cars premiere at LMS :( I just found out about it last week though and they are totally sold out. I couldn't even get any tix from DH's "connections" *sigh* So bummed.

We'll be at Cars! :cool1: My niece is counting the days down on her calendar.

I made my family get the tickets the minute we heard about it. My mother pooh-poohed the idea that they would sell out. :rotfl2:

In all the things going on during Speed Week (All Star Race, Pole Night, AND the Coca-Cola 600), the only thing to be sold out is the premiere of Cars! Never underestimate the power of Disney!

There were a few radio stations from Charlotte giving away tickets. Try 106.5 The End, 107.9 The Link and KISS 95.1. I know that The End streams on line but they aren't giving away those tickets today because that is what I'm listening to now.

Good luck!

While I would have loved to go see R&K, I am chaperoning my sons field trip that day. We do, however, have tickets to see Cars. (And, unrelated, dh and I will be at the Busch race the next day, too. :cool1: )

we are flying in for the cars event, then we have saturday FREE, flying home sunday

I have no idea what to do in charlotte??? DH, myself, DS (7), DS (4), DD (16 months).

We will have a car and are staying at the westin.

Thanks for any and all suggestions - I really need it.

There are lots of things to do here. You could go to Carowinds. It is a theme park.........a bit smaller than a typical Six Flags Park. However, it is something fun to do for a day. I will warn you that Saturdays, just like for WDW, are very busy so you may have long lines. They have a water park inside, too, so that is fun. Also in uptown (downtown) Charlotte we have Discovery Place. It is a big children's museum with an IMAX theater inside. The Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit is there now. Also, right down the road from the speedway is a HUGE indoor mall (quite a few outlet stores) called Concord Mills. It is great! There is a go kart track and virtual NASCAR race place in the mall also so the guys like that.

BTW, I wasn't aware that Regis and Kelly are coming to town. When? Where? Are the tickets sold out? Is it for the Cars premier?

Discovery Place sounds like a great idea for us.

Crowded theme park with 3 littles = not much fun

Plus my kids are disney spoiled cuz we go to DL so much, they only love disney, I wonder where they get that from? :rotfl2:

Can you suggest a good restaurant for saturday night? Not too fancy (with the kids) but something with some local color, flavor, sights would be great.

Also, any shops you reccommend? We have alot of malls and outlet malls here in Los Angeles, I'd love to find a street or neighborhood with local boutiques, that kind of thing.

Thanks so much!

I was at the Regis & Kelly show last Monday LIVE, and I wore my orange NASCAR Tony Stewart cap & jersey. When they were drawing for the CARS giveaway they showed me in the audience with my NASCAR gear. I was the only one in the audience that knew what they were talking about. I didn't win the trip so I won't ge going from NJ.
Have fun everyone.

I am not sure about special shops. I rarely shop in uptown. I normally stay South or Southeast of uptown. I can tell you that Discovery Place is right at Trade and Tryon which is a hot spot for uptown events. I am sure that there are other things/shops around that area. There are several restaurants around there. I know that Rock Bottom restaurant is next to Discovery Place. That is more like a fancy TGI Fridays in my opinion. Morton's, the famous steakhouse, is also in uptown. McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant also has an uptown location. There are other restaurants too.................Fuel Pizza (little pizza shop) and Blue Restaurant. (I have never eaten at Blue Restaurant, but I have walked past it many times.) I am not sure what restaurant to recommend for experiencing local flavor. Some others here on the Board may have recommendations for that. I am sure BBQ would be a top pick for that, but I can't think of any BBQ restaurants around that area to tell you about.
Hope this helps.

bridegirl -- I want to make sure you know that the speedway is in Concord, a good 20 miles away from Charlotte. Since you're flying in from LA, I'm assuming you are a VIP and have decent parking. If not, I would suggest that your DH drop you and the kids off and go park by himself. The regular people lots are a lot further out than I would want to do with young children, plus the walk isn't that stroller/pedestrian friendly since the speedway is only a destination for these kinds of crowds twice a year.

Hi Miss Kelly and everyone,

I was at the taping in Charlotte yesterday! It was a beautiful set, Kelly was SO personable, Regis is my absolute favorite celebrity and I got to speak to him!! :thumbsup2

The negative aspect was the way things were organized!!! About 40 of us were there before 6:00 AM (We got there at 5:15). They had given out tickets for 700 people so we "early birds" wanted to insure good seats. The Lowe's Motor Speedway guys moved "the line" 4 times before we finally got ferried by trams onto the speedway. Everytime we were moved the line got re-shuffled. (One time it was a mad dash across a field!! ) Thankfully people TRIED to somewhat honor those of us that were first in line.

I am glad we got to go but from the time we parked until the time we got back to the car was over 5 hours!! Wow!!

I think they were happy to be in Charlotte and I hope the premiere went well. Any questions?
