It means lots of milk or cream. My order at dunkin donuts is a large coffee, no sugar, cream, dark.

I normally order my coffee as light and sweet. I haven't attempted it here yet though. Wonder if they'll know what I mean.

I wonder if other states charge you to get into the beach! I've only been to Melbourne Beach here in FL and no charge. What's that beach in Suffolk that charges $45 for non residents? Does it start with a G? I never went because that was way too expensive! I have spent the money to go to Fire Island though.

Gilgo Beach.

Most of the beaches in NJ charge for the day or season. Honestly, I don't blame them. They're expensive to keep up (especially with the hurricanes), and why should the local residents have to pay for them through their property taxes (which are insane here anyway) when others come to use the beaches (I live almost an hour from the nearest beach).

They don't charge in New England. You only get charged for parking.

Born and raised in NJ and I've lived in Lake County, Fl for the past 8 years. I'll do mine by comparison. NJ-vs-Florida

NJ-BBQ- is cooking on the grill. Fl BBQ- is actual BBQ. Grill out is burgers & hot dogs.

NJ-Birthday cake we eat alone. Fl Bday cake is always served with ice cream.

NJ- We say "You guys." Fl It's "y'all or all y'all".

NJ-Jug handles, no u-turn and circles Fl U-turn almost everywhere and Roudabouts but they're only found in malls and neighborhoods.

NJ- No time to talk, rush, rush, rush. Fl You tell your life story to the cashier.....lol

NJ- Only elderly are Ma'm and sir. Fl- It's just good manners and everyone is ma'm or sir.

NJ-You go "Down the shore" Fl- You go to the beach.

NJ- Fresh bagels, pizza, good chinese food everywhere and diners on every corner. Fl- Einstein bagels or those fake ones in the store. Chinese food just isn't good and there are no diners. When we first moved down good pizza(not a chain) was impossible to find, but now we have an awesome family run pizzeria with real pizza.

NJ-Weddings are huge fancy events held in a Catholic church and the reception is at a banquet place. They're mostly formal & kids are hardly ever invited. Fl Weddings are more casual, receptions can even be in the church gym, no alcohol. Kids are always invited.

There are plenty more, but those I just came up with off the top of my head.

I grew up in FL and haven't been charged to get onto a beach. Parking...or a ferry to an island yes

Someone mentioned awhile back about Pork Roll and Scrapple... for those not familiar.. pork roll is similar to Canadian ham. Not exactly the same but similar to. Scrapple.. if you knew what it was made of you wouldn't eat it. But i would think texture-wise it is similar to hash with out the potatoes, but flavor wise more like loose breakfast sausage. You cook it in the frying pan so the outside gets a crisp serve it at breakfast. Some folks like to put ketchup on it.

Oh and we go " down the shore" from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Thank you! For some reason I kept saying Gigilo in my head!

That is a town of babylon beach. So, residents pay for it.

Jones and Robert Moses are state parks. So you really only pay for parking just like you would at any state park.
$10 a car isn't so bad!

I'm sorry, but how is her not saying Ma'am rude? She probably never heard that response before in her life. If she spoke a different language, would you still think she was rude? Now, I prefer "excuse me?", but "what" is used SO much here. Obviously, she wasn't intending on insulting you, so why would you think her to be rude? The correct response in NY is certainly not ma'am!
I can't speak for the OP, but I would take "What?" as the rude response and not the lack of the word "ma'am". Down here, if you don't understand what someone says, you do often say, "I'm sorry?", "excuse me?", or "ma'am?" and we are taught that ,"huh?" or "what?" is a rude response.

My Aunt was married to a man from Kansas City, MO
It was Thanksgiving and she was making one of his requests: Wide egg noodles with chicken broth. That was different.
Of course he thought her boiled onions were weird as were the rutabaga's & turnips my DH had to have :)

I used to go alone and it started to really add up when I lived on my own. I was really bad at staying on budget. My own fault!

We ate breakfast at a little luncheonette place near Massanutten in Virginia.

One of the breakfast meat choices was pon haus. We over heard the table next to us explaining it to their kids. In a very very thick Southern accent, the mom said to the kids "yall like that...its a tasty cake".

So I was intrigued. The only "tasty cake" I ever heard of is a hostess-type cupcake.

I asked the waitress what it was....She just laughed and said "you're a northerner...you wouldn't like that!" and walked away.

I later googled it and found out it what it was! She was right...I wouldn't eat that!!!!!

Growing up in California - all State beaches and parks charged day use fee's. Many of the city parks charged use fee's as well. The freebies were the neighborhood parks

I grew up in the Ozarks, and didn't know about this dish until I moved to KC. It can be tasty if you use good broth!

Pittsburgher here. We are known for some regionalisms, such as our way of speaking, which is called Pittsburghese. Everyone knows we all say "yinz" and "redd up", words we take for granted. Pittsburghers' identities are often profoundly tied to their childhood neighborhoods, such as "I'm from the South Side".

Our Steelers are our religion. On a Pittsburgh Steelers home game weekend (not to mention if they've made it to the Super Bowl playoffs) Pittsburghers swathe the city in yellow and black: banks hand out yellow and black Eat N Park sugar cookies, clothes shops push racks of Steelers t-shirts out onto the sidewalks, you'll see yellow and black hats and t-shirts on public buses, and “good luck!” signs on virtually every urban street corner. If you do not wear your black and gold on the Friday before a game you are deemed unworthy and will be shunned!

Our food traditions are tied to our Eastern European, German and Italian ancestors. We love our Cabbage Rolls, Isaly's Chipped Chopped Ham, Halusky, Keilbasi, Nut Rolls, Gobs, The Pittsburgh Steak Salad, and of course the Primanti Brothers Sandwich which is now popular everywhere!

One tradition we have that I have never seen anywhere else is our wedding cookies. Every wedding reception in Pittsburgh has featured cookie tables, laden with dozens of homemade old-fashioned offerings like lady locks, pizzelles, gobs and buckeyes. For weeks ahead — sometimes months — mothers and aunts and grandmas and in-laws hunker down in the kitchen baking and freezing. Then, on the big day, hungry guests ravage the buffet, piling plates high and packing more in takeout containers so they can have them for breakfast the next day.

southeast WI here -sheboygan to be specific. here are some off the top of my head.

brats -pronounced "brots" -
speaking of brats we ordered one in germany at Epcot once and it came with saurrkraut and we took it off and ate the brat with ketchup & mustard, and ate the saurkraut plain with a fork:rolleyes1.

ice melt is called " salt"

soda - white soda for 7-up,etc. orange soda, rootbeer, etc.( and pepsi and coke are NOT the same - i had an "disscussion" with a carnival worker this past summer - he assured me that $3.00 soda was coke - he almost wore it. :furious::furious:)

we have an accent - even a county wide one :headache: we sound different from others in the state ( not sure why)

we call and outdoor cooking "frying" - "do you want to come over for a brat fry" or " going to fry some burgers"
anything BBQ has sauce on it - BBQ'd ribs. BBQ'd chicken.

beer batter - on onion rings/fish/etc -no panko or bread crumbs yuck :rotfl:

we dont call the beach "the beach" we say " were going down to the lake"

I had a similar response when I asked what scrapple is. I was in NC having breakfast and saw it on the menu. The waitress said if you have to ask what it is, you shouldn't order it because you won't like it. I took her advice and looked it up later.
