I read in another post on this board where it was stated that an "Indiana" women beat her child. I'm right here in South Bend - and it's amazing to see an incident in your town as the top news story on the Today Show...but please note that this woman was NOT an Indiana mother!! She was actually from Texas and is part of a band of "nomads" who travel across the country looking for seasonal work. Those of us here in northern Indiana are furious and just as determined to find and punish her as the rest of the country.

As many times as you've seen it on the national news, you can just imagine how many times we've seen it here - over and over again!!! That store (Kohl's) is located in a very influential retail area of our community. It infuriates me to see how she "looked around" to see if anyone was watching, and then began to beat that child! Thank GOD for those surveillance cameras!

I'm sorry to sound so harsh...but maybe when they find her, they can strap her in a car and let someone 4 times her size beat on her for 20 seconds.

It always saddens me a great deal to see kids getting "spankings" of any kind.....never mind beaten like that poor little one in the back seat.

I for one have never spanked, I think it's just plain cruel and unessesary.

She should go to jail and get a lesson or 2 taught to her.

The tape was disturbing and sickening. However, I am not against them showing it as it may wake some who do this to their children. I am not sure what I wish for that "mom" she is despicable and the saddest thing is children everywhere live that every day of there little lives. :( I hope they find her soon. I pray that the little girl is OK.

What disturbs me the most about this horrific story is that if this mother is so disturbed, why is her family withholding information as to her whereabouts? I just don't get this. Do they not care about this poor child?

There are so many people in this world, really good people who would make fine parents, who would do anything to adopt a child. Friends of ours want a child so bad, they have tried for years and cannot have their own, and are now in the process of adopting. They are willing to take any child, regardless of age, race, background - yet they still have a long wait. It just so unfair that someone so evil could abuse this beautiful child when there are people waiting in the wings who would take her and love her up. :(

Snoops - as usual, you took the thoughts right out of my head -
I & many of my friends, would love to have another child to love, guide, care for.......It burns me up inside that there are these monsters out there, abusing their precious little babies, taking them for granted, causing irreperable harm to them - not just the physical abuse, but the emotional aftermath that kids like this will suffer from for the rest of their lives...
I couldn't even watch that tape on the news this morning - it made me sick...
I agree with you, TwinMom - she should be subjected to the same abuse she doled out - not just the physical size difference - but by someone she trusts & looks to for love & protection....

The other thing that really upset me was that the other adult she was with did nothing. I'd of screamed bloody murder if someone I'd been with had done that. I hope they find this monster and take that poor child away from her. You just know that this probably wasn't the first time she did this.

She was using her fist and she was hitting her all over and it really looked like she was punching her in the head. It was very bad.
I think they said the other person with her was her sister! I think I heard they arrested her.

I just hope the child is okay...I haven't seen what you are all talking about, but from the description I keep reading, the child's nose could've been broken, not to mention the areas around her eyes.

I also hope that she doesn't do any more abuse to the child, she obviously knows she's in big trouble by now, and she might take it out even more on the child.

Oh Buckalew, I hope you're right! She's almost as guilty as the mother/monster is! The sister also had a child in tow right? God help that child as well.

Yes, it was her sister and yes, she's been arrested. According to the news, it's a felony to witness a child abuse case and not report it.

Now....get ready for this.....I just answered the phone at my office and the woman on the other end asked to speak to this fugitive...Madeline Osborne Troogood. I said, "excuse me?" and she repeated her request. I told her that there was no one by that name working at this office and I hung up. I can't BELIEVE I didn't ask who was calling... but I'm wondering if the local prosecuter's office is actually going through the phone book and calling all local businesses looking for this woman. FIRST of all....if she WAS employed by a local company, don't you think they would have turned her in when this story broke...and SECOND of all, do they really think she's still here in town, reporting to work each day? You just gotta wonder, don't you???

I just saw the video on CNN. Its a good thing I am here and not there witnessing it. I would be the one ending up in jail! I have a real problem with adults beating children. I can't even discuss it.

At one point the woman was swinging the girls ponytail violently also. This could cause severe brain damage.

I've seen children beaten before, I'm from the old school, but this was a violent abusive attack. I want her caught and this child taken away from her. People like that have NO RIGHT to raise a life.

I'm a Hoosier Woman here;)

Seriously it was very sad to see that baby being hit like that. No one should be abused no matter what. It is also ashame that her family is so ignorant to the fact that this poor child may very well be in danger.
I for one do believe in spanking but beating a child as her mom did that was down right abuse. I spank my kids when verbal warnings are ignored that does not make me a child abuser and in no way shape or form would I ever beat the crap out of my child as this mental nut case was doing to her child. Some of you might say there is no difference and beating and spanking are the same and --thats your opinion. I thank God I'm not a Carol Brady

And I'm definitely not June Cleaver! LOL
But from the description of what she was doing was definitely abuse. I hope they catch her.

I saw the video, and by the looks of it, she has done this before, or else WHY would she be looking around for witnesses! She needs to be be beat within one inch of her life!

Lord, I hope they find that child soon. They are saying they want to get her checked out at a hospital asap.

When I saw that tape, I actually felt nauseous. That poor baby. And this coming from the person whom she should be able to trust the most. How do you survive this?

Where did everyone see this tape? This is the first I've heard of this.

This sounds truly horrible. I can't imagine a Mom doing such a thing.

This is a link from our local news website, you can see a video article about in, including the video of the attack.

Beware, this video is graphic.

Yuck. :(

I think that Texans need to keep an eye out for this woman. It seems logical that she may just return to this area if she is fleeing.

That poor baby.
