Traveling with DH and 2DD (older teens). DH will be picking up car rentals with the girls while I take ME (just to make sure our bags get to the resort). I haven't rode ME is a couple of years - do they ask for id (drivers license) at check in? I have a Costco membership which allows an additional driver which I want to add myself to. Can I give DH my driver's license to give to the checkout to add me to the car rental?

All you need is your Magic Band or the voucher if you're coming from somewhere the Magic Bands don't ship to.

I think the OP is asking about ID for the second driver at the car rental counter- not at DME.
(At least that's how I read it.)

I'm pretty sure you have to show both id's to get out of the facility....why would you ride ME to make sure you bags get to the resort? are you planning on getting them yourself and carrying them?

The way I read it is that she's asking if she needs ID to get on the DME bus because she wants to give hers to her husband to take to the rental counter.

ME isn't intended to be a luggage delivery service where you just have DME take care of you luggage while you rent a car so she's planning to ride DME while the rest of her party gets the rental car (although from what I've read it appears that the luggage will most likely make it to the hotel even if no one rides the bus). I don't know why her daughters are going with her husband instead of riding DME with her though - it only takes one person to rent a car.

no- I think it takes 2 id's if you have 2 people on the rental.... that's my experience at least.... as far as one person riding to get the luggage transfer.... I've done both ways of getting to wdw...and it's just as simple IMHO to get your own luggage and go get your car. Unless you are all taking the bus-then it's simpler to let them handle it and get it later on.

That's what the OP wants to do - give her ID to her husband, who's going to pick up the rental. She's just wondering if she'll need it herself to get on the DME bus.

aha.... well the last time we did this both drivers had to be there to get the car along with our id's..... Alamo wouldn't just let my DH show mine

The last time I've tried to add people on to my car rental they had to be there in person... I couldn't just show their license or give the agent the license info. This was with National.

Right I wanted to give DH my id and the older girls want to do the grocery shopping. I was wondering if I needed to show ID for ME. The last time I added a driver at the exit the rep barely made eye contact with me much less could see my sister who was sitting in the back of the van who I was adding to the contract for free. Like I said I have not ridden ME in awhile, the last time they asked how many bags I had tagged so am thinking I need to ride the bus.

You do not need to show ID for ME. They just need to scan your magic band or your ME voucher.

I believe that you will only need to show your magic band or the resort voucher to ride ME

We have used Alamo/National, Hertz, Budget/Alamo and Dollar/Thrifty in the past and all agencies required that both drivers be present to have their licences verified for the rental. This can be done at the rental counter (after which you could go your separate ways) or if you have used the Online Check-in process, the drivers and licences will need to be verified at the booth in the garage or at the checkout gate depending on the agency that is being used.
The important part here is that both drivers need to be present for verification.

ME is going to get your bags to your resort whether or not you ride (as long as your bags are tagged). Your bags will not necessarily be on the bus that you are travelling and will be delivered to your resort several hours after your arrival.

Yellow-tagged bags do not ride on the MDE bus in any case. They are grabbed before the airport baggage claim and trucked to the WDW resorts.
They only exception is when yellow-tagged bags arrive outside of the MDE luggage handling hours (10pm to 5am). In that case, all bags go to baggage claim and must be picked up by the travelers and brought on the DME bus.

You are correct. Now that I look back at my post, I see that I worded it awkwardly/incorrect.
Thanks for the clearer explanation.

You can just stop at the car rental counter with your dh, on the way to DME. You can give your license, sign the paperwork, and then be on your way to DME. The car rental counters are on the way to DME.
