Refusing the FINGER SCAN??

I've never put my finger in the scanner because I don't like germs and tons of people touch them per day. We just show our ID and the CM punches something in the gate and lets us through.

You are correct. Tons of people each put 1 finger on the scanners everyday. They also hold the safety bars of the rides. They also put their hands on the hand rails in the line queues.

Just keep washing your hands. It is the best way to keep those germs at bay.

I understand that....but it starts here with a complaint about a single finger scan and next think you know, you will be thrown in jail for looking at a muslim the wrong way because you "may have been thinking something bad about them" The people on the far far left want no law, no dicipline. They dont want to be told where to go or how to go there at anyones expense. I know the scans are for fraud, but the left wing loonies use things like this to further their demeneted causes. Its like why do real americans care about what goes on in a prison in Gitmo??? We are at war and there are too many americans for my liking who are too concerned with the rights of the enemy.

I worked with a guy like that last year and he told me something which was so pathetic i almost got sick....we were discussing wiretaps and i asked him if a wiretap (legal or illegal) could have stopped 9/11 would that have been ok and he said "no, its not worth the rights of one person being violated" That statement sums up the looney left..i see it from Ted Kennedy all the time.....makes me sick that he represents my state.

So in closeing, this is all about how things WILL snowball unless we stop this "ooooh my privacy" nonsense now!!!

The law says it's illegal to torture prisoners, and it's illegal to hold people without charges or access to lawyers. These things have been done by our government, both at Gitmo and at POW cams in Iraq.

As a real American who wants law and discipline, I am therefore concerned with what my government is doing in violation of the law.

They (terrorists, Al Quida, etc) are the bad guys. Why? They're not the bad guys because of what flag they fly; they're not the bad guys because of what church they attend; they're not the bad guys because of the color of their skin; they're not the bad guys because of what country they come from. They're the bad guys because they do bad things - like murdering innocent people and torturing prisoners.

We (Americans) are the good guys. Why? We're not the good guys because of what flag we fly, or what church we attend, or the color of our skin, or what country we come from. We are the good guys because we DON'T do those bad things.

What happens when we start doing those bad things? Then we wouldn't be the good guys any more, we'd be the bad guys.

Good Americans don't blindly sign off on illegal, immoral, or unethical government policies just because we're afraid of terrorist attack; good Americans have the courage to stand up and do what is right despite the danger of terrorist attack. Good Americans watch what our government does and hold it accountable when it breaks the law.

"Freedom isn't free" is a common cliche these days, but a lot of people don't realize what it means - it means that if you want to be free, you better be willing to get off your *** and work for it yourself, instead of just waving a flag and sending others off to foreign lands to do your fighting for you, and that means holding your government accountable when they step out of line.

It also means that we ALL must be willing to accept the risks that are inherent in a free society, because taking away freedoms to make us feel safe not only doesn't work, but destroys everything that America stands for, everything that the American soldier has been laying down his life to protect for 230 years.

Back to the original topic - once fingerprint info is added to the already impressive dossier of information that WDW has on each of us, it becomes that much more likely that the US Government will demand that information be turned over in the name of "fighting terror" or "tracking pedophiles" or whatever the law enforcement Disease of the Week is this week. And as witnessed earlier this year by not one but two incidents of lost laptops, our government has a wonderful record of keeping our personal, private, sensitive information secure and safe, doesn't it?

Boy, this may be a bit OT, but let me tell you about some of the things that go on OUTSIDE the prison at GTMO.

Hell, who am I kidding, I can't remember about 99% of what has happened outside camp Dog, but I know most of it has involved tequilla, beer, and banana rats.

Come to think of it, I'm really quite lucky I haven't ended up in a prison in GTMO myself.

If Disney believes you are too disabled to use the finger scan, they can request ID be shown instead. OTOH, Disney has the right to refuse to allow entry into their property to anyone. If you refuse the finger scan (which is not taking a fingerprint, BTW) Disney can refuse to let you in.

They are using the fingerprint now.

My DS uses a wheelchair, they never used a fingerscan with him and never asked for ID. This was just this month.

We have always lived in an era of terrorism. That should never take away our privacy.

I'm a privacy nut - not because I have anything to hide - but because I value my privacy. Just because you don't value your privacy the same way, please don't put down people who do. Everybody places value on different things.

I have no problem with the Disney scanners because they aren't particularly invasive. But if, say, they took an actual fingerprint, I'd refuse. And if that meant no Disney for me, so be it.

Would like to ask a question about the info Disney retains on us. On several of the posts people have said that Disney even can tell you if you charged a pretzel on your room key. Several years ago (about 9) I traveled to Disney with three other relatives. Back then the reservations were put under one name (mine) and all the room keys had that name (mine) on it. Well, there was a huge problem with transportation after a Hoop-Dee-Doo show that we had all gone to. Disney did mess up but after a while it was taken care of and we all got back to our hotel..One of the people traveling with me went to the front desk when we got back and raised such a stink over it that they (Disney) returned all of our meal ticket money. I didn't know she was doing this and felt she was blowing it a little out of proportion. So my question is this. On file does it show that I'm the screaming butt head that got her money returned even tho it wasn't really me?

My DD also uses a wheelchair and we went in mid October. She was never asked for a fingerscan, but she was with us and we all did the fingerscans. I think that would make a difference.

The strange thing to me is that, once upon a time (not too long ago), it was the right-wing that was concerned about privacy. Remember the right-wing militias and their worries about black helicopters, government intrusion, and the like?

Heck, remember Reagan's inaugural address, wherein he said that government isn't the solution to our problems, government IS the problem?

The new scan doesn't work ANY better than the previous one that "sized" up your fingers.

I stand there holding up the line..............rolling my finger around and around until it registers it.

Really? We have found the single finger scan far superior and quicker then the old two finger system.

The picture on top of the scanner shows an index finger being held flat, with the tip at the ridge in the front of the scanner lens. Your finger has to be flat on the scanner so it can focus correctly.

I see people holding their finger so only the tip is on the scanner, or the finger is only part way in, or the finger is on top of the scanner so it is actually looking at the underside of the knuckle and it is not on.

Also, you do need to hold it for a second or so, you will see a blue light flash. If you are moving the finger when the light flashes, or you take it off before o during the flash we will get an error indication.
