refundable vs non refundable???

I am trying to figure out SW tickets and ding. When we buy our regular tickets while waiting for Ding do they have to be refundable? Can we buy Non refundable and then get a credit for travel later within the year?

Anything else I need to learn about SW? I know to go online and get boarding passes 24 hours early to get A. Look for Ding, What else?

No, they don't have to be refundable to get a ding but you will not get a refund for the difference in fare, it will go into an account for another flight. For example, I had a non-refundable $177 fare for last October. A ding came along for $107. I cancelled the $177, it went into the ticketless fund and then I bought the ticket for $107, $70 remains in the fund for another flight.
