I have never needed to explore the possibility of a refundable ticket, or just rescheduling later, but I do right now, so I was hoping some expert could help.
My daughter is currently CP. Her term expires January 5. The plan is (was?) for my husband to fly down January 4 and drive her home in the car. I don't want her driving alone through mountains in January, bad weather, etc. (we are in Ohio).
She is trying to get an internship for spring. She is "in progress" for 5 of them right now, which means she is under consideration. She tells me that they are notoriously slow in making decisions. Meanwhile, plane tickets for January 4 go up and up.... We would like to just put our foot down and say "come home", but then if she gets an internship I would feel awful that she missed out.
I seem to remember on Southwest that if I buy a ticket and then cancel, I can use it in up to 6 months. Is that correct? My thought is buy a ticket, then if she gets an internship reschedule it for whenever she is done (probably May or June) and he can fly down and drive her home then.
I know refundable tickets on most airlines are ridiculous prices, but I am very sketchy on rescheduling. Thanks for any help or information you can give.

As you saw in the Southwest link, you have 12 months to apply the funds from the ticket. Just remember the 12 months start from the initial date of purchase of the ticket, not the flight date.

And remember that only the person's name that was on the original ticket can use the funds later. So a ticket bought for Sue Smith can not be used to by a ticket for Jane Smith.

You can buy a SWA anytime fare which is refundable or a Frontier Airline Classic Plus ticket is also fully refundable.

That is fine. We would just be using it whenever he has to go drive her home, and that should be within 6 months; let alone 12.
