Just got mine too...now I hope the bank will cash it - a piece of info is missing...Pete didn't "sign" the amount, just wrote it in the box that he was suppose to. The check is signed so I'm hoping it won't be a problem!!! Anyway, glad to see the check - thanks.

Yup...just checked with my bank. My check has to go back to Pete. Banks don't go by the "numbers" on the check, they go by the written out "signed" amount. Guess I gotta wait a few more weeks now. Make sure and look at your checks to make sure they are written on - and then you might want to check with your bank before doing anything with it. I'm sure it was just an oversight but my bank said it would get returned to them and then to me by the time it made it back to clear Pete's bank, thus my bank would take the money out of my account to return back to the bank.

Just one last thing for those that haven't read through this post - my bank would not even allow me to write in the amount. I tried but they said NO!

I got two checks. The amounts had not been written out so I just wrote the amount myself. Not a problem, the bank took it without question.

Chris, why didn't you just write the amount?

Mine arrived the same way. I went to the bank and talked to them and luckily they let me fill in the missing information and cashed it but said that all the spaces needed to be filled out.

They asked if I trusted the sender and if I felt the check was good because I would be the one paying if it wasn't. They left it up to me whether I wanted to fill in the blanks.

I hope my trust is not violated.

I'm sure that you are not the only one Chris.

We use Bank of America. They didn't want to take it either but I pleaded (OK I whined) and had to take the check to the head teller to get approval. I think it helped that we are a small town and they know us at the bank otherwise I would have had to send mine back also.

It sounds like most banks are just having people fill in the blanks if they trust the sender although that is wrong also. I just hope there is no foul up between the banks because the handwriting is different or anything and the checks start being kicked back.

Hey Chris....Your last post sounds like you are upset with people....not sure why....I read over the posts after yours and everybody just stated what they did....Though one asked why you didn't (Didn't sound like they were trying to be mean though)...

It was VERY NICE of you to point it out...I for one didn't notice...but I also will be filling in the amount and just depositing it...

It's possible that some people just aren't comfortable filling in that part on someone else's check. Chris, I'm sorry that your bank won't take it. Tammy, I'm glad yours will.
I don't have mine yet. But I will most likely play dumb, fill it in, and deposit it.

I got mine today. I'll fill the amount in before I take it to the bank Mon. Pete is a trusting soul for not writing in the amount. I've seen prescriptions where the MD's 1 refill becomes 4 refills when the patient decides he/she wants more medication than the MD prescribes Don't worry, Pete- my check will read one hundred sixty three dollars and 00 cents.

Same situation here. After checking with someone else that the dollar amount was correct - I wrote the dollar amount in words myself. The only thing that HAS to be signed by Pete is the signature line. I believe anyone can fill in the other blanks - as long as the dollar amount is the same in both words and numbers.
