Refillable Mugs

UPS doesn't seem to have any trouble when the vendor uses an inside out FEDX box

I know UPS will let you use them..they have nothing to lose. Post Office really would have no way of knowing..however, I won't bid again on an item from a seller that is misusing the boxes. My last shipment of USPO boxes came with the writing on the outside..which UPS won't take (according to my UPS man). Maybe that will slow it down some...unless the people using them cover them in insie out bags.

After reading all posts, sounds like there are people out there who don't mind that they steal, they are just sorry when they get caught!!! Not something I would want to teach my children - it's okay to break the rules (enforced or not)!

What I don't understand is why people bother to ask if they can use the mugs on future trips when the answer is posted on the ice machines and the mugs? (I think these are new, I don't recall seeing them in 2001)

Why would the CMs tell guest one thing when something else is posted?

What's the point of having the policy?

I don't care what other families do. I plan to buy new mugs on each trip. They only cost about $25.00(one for son and one for me).

I was at All Star Sports last month and I saw not only old mugs, but mugs from other resorts there being refilled. I personally didn't really care that people were doing this. Think about all the other ways disney gets your $$$, hotel, tickets, parking, souvineers, food, etc. I even bet Disney doesn't even pay for the soda.... Coca Cola probably pays them to serve their products, just like Coke pays our school district big money to have their machines and no others in all our school buildings.

I personally bought mugs this last trip because we spent a lot of time at the pool, so it was convenient. I will probably buy new mugs next trip too, b/c I will want one that says pop century and like others have said, I will not want to lug my old ones from home......

I don't much care what others do either, BUT, your logic or how this is ok, because people spend on other things is flawed. It is justification for doing something against the rules. Where they get the soda and how much, if anything, they pay for it is not relevant. What is relevant is the fact that the signs say good for your length of stay, no for life. As I said, I could care less, I am not the soda police, but, I get really irate when someone finds some swiss cheese logic to break the rules.

They will accept them if you cross out any writing on them. You don't have to obliterate it, just put a big "x" on any writing.
We reuse boxes from vendors all the time. We believe in recycling. Not sure I would use a fex ex mailer for something going USPS or UPS.

But the CM's DO say something. When they want to encourage you to buy..they STILL say, bring em on back for your future trips. See that's the rub..they encourage you to bring them back for refills.

I don't appreciate being called a cheater. That's not the type of board this is, where you call other people names, just because you don't agree with them. Disney sets the rules, not you..and at this time, they are still having their cm's encourage the sale of the mugs. Why, you say do they keep telling us to bring them back? To sell the mugs, knowing full well, the bigger percentage won't bring them back.

Too bad your first post couldn't have waited until you knew more about what Disney CM's say when you buy (or look like you are thinking of buying) the mugs. A lot of us have agreed to disagree, but seldom does someone decide they have the right to call another person a cheater, without knowing what they were told at Disney.

I would never call you a cheater, but, at AK and at DVC we were told quite clearly that they are for that stay and that stay only.
I guess this is one of those situations where it depends on the day, the time and the CM.

It makes no sense to encourage the sale of mugs and then discourage future sales by telling people to bring them back.
I don't doubt that you were told this, but, it is totally illogical, wouldn't you agree?

I like the mugs and purchase them as souvenirs anyway. But I am curious as to where this policy of "one time use" exists? I know I read it on allears but I don't remember ever seeing it posted in Disney by the soda fountains or elsewhere. If it is posted, then I would agree that re-using is a no-no regardless of whether the policy is enforced or CM's tell guests otherwise.

I suppose if they wanted to enforce the policy they could issue the sticker like we got at Blizzard Beach. You had to scan the sticker to work the machine. I never tried it but my dh said it was a bit of a pain.

It is posted by where you buy the mugs. At the AK it is on the banner that runs constantly and by where you buy the mugs.
At OKW, it is right there with the mugs. This rules has been in effect for a couple of years now.

The CMs are poorly trained and really have no business contradicting corporate policy. But, again, I could care less. I stay at OKW and can buy one heck of a lot of coke of 10.99 and I bring my old DVC mug back and use it for the soda I buy at WalMart. That is as close to "lifetime" use as I am going to venture.

Yes, they will accept recylced boxes, but even those say on
the "rules" area on line, that they can only be reused for Priority.

As far as Disney being illogical..yes, and what else is new LOL. This isn't the first of their own rules they don't follow. Some of the food court managers have said they allow them to be reused hoping to get people to come back to Disney resorts. Others have said that at some time Disney plans on enforcing it, but has no interest in doing it at this time. When the suits were at POR talking about the refurbishment , we chatted for a long time...and he just said they plain don't care. If I was at a resort like you, where they told me no, I wouldn't use them..but as long as THEY say yes, I will. I don't stay at AK or DVC, so I wouldn't have had the oportunity to ask there...maybe it's just the values and mod's that are lose on the policy, and encouraging the reuse. However, the food court managers at the values and mod's seem to have no problem and do encourage..not just the regular CM's. Disney guest relations told me in spite of "official" policy, the food court managers make those decisions for themselves, and Dis has no problem with that.
Again, if you ahven't been told to bring them back, or you don't feel comfortable..then don't. Easy as that.
And thank you Gail for not calling me a cheater..it's appreciated : )!!

No problem, you do not deserve to be called a cheater. You are asking and getting permission, nothing cheating about that. :)
You also don't use the Swiss Cheese logic that drives me up the wall. :)
Have a great Mother's Day. :)

Bread Bags...I may be an Ebeneezer Scrooge...but I would have never even thought of doing that  shame on those people who did. You can at least buy a mug...I mean you DO get your money's worth by doing so! :drinking1

Everytime we go to Disney we purchase new mugs (4x in the last year). However, when we split a stay we don't purchase mugs at each resort.

I'm not costing Disney (or anyone else) money because I would be drinking the same amount of pop if I stayed at one resort or two within one stay.

We only have 8 mugs !!! :earseek: This trip, I do plan on bringing 2 of the 8 and will buy 2 more, for souviners. We usually don't end up drinking all that much, never at the hotel long enough, just drinks on the way in and out. I have not yet seen other items filled up. If I did see a bread bag filled up with fluid, I would probably be sad for the family that has to go to those lengths, and feel blessed that I don't.::yes::

Whoever posted about the cost of the drinks, I'm sure a Disney genius came up with the refillable idea, as my family always buy something each time we fill up. :wave2:

It was kids (with parents right there) and they were filling up with the frozen coke at Pop Century. I just couldn't believe it...I think there were about 20 of us just staring. It actually took a few seconds for it to "click"...that they wre actually filling a bread bag. I'm pretty sure they were never told to bring that bread bag back and refill it.

DBF and I are going to music for a week, we are going to purchase 2 mugs, but he wants to poor the drink into a 2L bottles and keep the bottles in the room so he will only have to get drinks once a day. He wants to bring funnel and empty bottles. We are trying to get a quieter room but that means really far. The idea is good but would we be glared at? We are taking a towncar but rather not spend our vacation buying groceries.

for anyone who has stayed at pop century: Is Frozen coke part of the refillable mug deal???? My son will definately love that and so will I since we will be there in August!!!!

Yes, when the frozen machines work. It was a coke machine and a punch type of drink

Thanks for the info DMRick!!!!!! My ds and I hope they are working, maybe they will have all the kinks worked out by the time we are there.

And to the next person...... you would think that this forum should be buried in the Disney graveyard by now...LOL

I just want to know... Can you eat canned corn out of your refillable mug?

Glared at? I would be embarrassed to even mention something like that to anyone much less do it. Tell your DBF to buy some two liter bottles of soda it money is that tight.
