Refillable Mugs

They've been doing it in the WP for years but as others here report it's not as easy to do that in the resorts. The only way it would be worth it for me to bring back old mugs is if they had free refills on beer - then all bets are off! :drinking1 :drinking:

How wouldn't it be easy to do? I'm not seeing any challenge besides adding the feature to the machines (or replacing the machines). Seems really simple and it would definately cut down on these threads if they did do it (hint, hint).

I don't know what the difficulty is but people familiar with the technology say it's hard - plus the fact remains that WDW doesn't seem interested in doing it nor do they seem to care anything about DIS threads - I still want to see beer added to the choice tho......

I wouldn't count on it...they use the barcodes at the waterparks, so it would be easy enough to do and outfit the machines with. They have the technology in place.
In 2002 the Orlando Sentinal had some article about the bar codes being in place on the water park mugs and everyone thought they were going to test them out at the resorts. However for some reason they never did and since it's now 2009 that's why I don't see it ever happening at the resorts.

As Disney looks to squeeze more money out of customers that are low revenue generating (discounted rooms), I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't revisit it. Now would be the time, IMO.

If I'm not mistaken, the refillable mugs at the water parks are one-day use, right?

If there is a problem with the barcode, it is fairly simple to deal with it since it had been purchased at the location earlier - you should still have proof of payment, and only a day of records needs to be checked.

With the resort mugs, they are good for a much longer period. Problems with the barcodes can result in long lines at the register, lost proof of payment requiring long lookups, etc.

Now, I could see them adding a new entitlement type to a KTTW card, for a refillable mug purchase. Just call it "unlimited drinks", guest can use their own (reasonably sized) cup or purchase a souvenir cup, and a card reader at the dispenser. But I can also see longer lines at the dispensers since it will take time for each person to use, etc. whereas right now several people can use the same dispenser at once.

... or Kungaloosh! Heck, I'd be interested in refills on Grand Marnier Slushies and Grey Goose Slushies!

:santa:
