So do you buy the Resort Mug and then reuse it on your next trip at the same resort ???? How do you feel about this ? Have you done this and how was your experience?

Plus let's see your current resort Mug Pics

** I have not done this myself but I see so much about this topic I wanted to see what the REAL feeling is on this** I am not condeming or condoning this either I am really just a neutral party**

This is a hot topic! Mugs are only for use on the vacation you purchased them on. They are not meant to be reused. I am sure some people do, however disboards doesn't allow threads about strategies for breaking rules.

Its a personal decision of course, but the rule is, they are one time use only. Now if you are doing a split stay, you can buy the mug at the first resort and then use it at the second one since they are not resort specific. The exception to this is the Coronodo Springs Resort mugs which are resort specific and can be used at that resort only. Here is some info with a picutre of the current mug:
http://allears.net/din/mugs.htm

The mugs are a great deal. They pay for themselves after about five or six refills. They make a nice souveneir to bring home. We have lots of mugs we use from all our trips and my dd and I always joke about which resort we wish we were at at that moment and then use that mug!

No, I don't re-use my mugs. There are signs posted that clearly state your mug is good for the trip in which it was purchased only. I think it is bad form to steal, even if it is just soda.

I agree completely. It is teaching kids bad habits, if they see their parents steal then they will think it is ok to steal. It is taking them down the wrong path, besides that it is a sin to steal.

Leaving religion out of it, I personally don't think it's right to teach your kids that stealing is OK. That "even if it's just" attitude spreads and spreads until the person who does steal begins to have very few boundaries. Having said that, I have seen people using older mugs (not the "for life" mugs) and using just about anything else you can think of at the refill stands. This held true no matter which level of resort I stayed at. So far the toppers have been the giant NASCAR mugs that an entire family was using, and the large shiny Thermos that one lady was using at the coffee machine. :sad2:

General consensus from previous threads seems to be that split stays are different. IMHO if you are on a trip and are staying at two different resorts, then I don't see the harm.

I agree, what are you showing your kids. Plus, I do not want to carry it with me in my luggage on the way down if I do not have to.

I did reuse them on a separate trip once because on my first trip I thought they'd be a great deal but we only used them twice the whole week because our room was so far away from the food court that we couldn't stand bringing them all the way back to our room after breakfast before we got on the busses. Likewise we didn't use them when we got back in the evening because we didn't want to walk all the way to our room to get them and haul them back to the food court. The only time we used them was our first evening and our last morning.

So.... I didn't feel the least bit guilty to bring them on the next trip where I used them twice more. I figured I'd paid about $12 for four drinks which included a nice little mug. Seemed like a fair deal to me and Disney. That's for my personal experience. I don't think I will buy them this next trip but I guess it depends on if I like the design. I didn't care for the one last year a whole lot. If my hotel room was really close to the food court and I didn't have small kids I would probably be willing to run back and forth. No way am I carrying four mugs around the park just so I can get a free refill when we get back either :scared1:

Yes, usually we do use them for more than one visit. Next month however, we will be staying at CSR so I will not be bringing them along, nor will I be purchasing one. I will bring them on our trip in December when we will be staying at Pop though and will maybe buy another one as well.

now im outta the loop a little here- have beenn in 4 years! yikes!!! lol when we went to typhoon lagoon in i think 04, we bought a reusable mug. the cm working that day said yep you buy it and get a scan code on it and its good for life in any park/ resort for the rest of your life. now how on earth you would reuse it when the scan code was a paper sticker i haven't figured out! but im assuming this is no longer true?

No we don't but I do use them around the house all the time and do keep a set in my Luggage for when we go to other places. When we get our new ones each trip We then leave them in the luggage and switch the luggage ones into House ones.

i think they are great for everyday use and hold up very well.

I don't get it it's $14 when your spending $1000s on a trip and a great Souvie of your trip you can enjoy until your next one.

We don't go often, and I have not reused them, but they are no longer resort-specific mugs. I have old ones from Ft Wilderness and AKL, and bought the new one a few weeks ago. I think they are the same for all the resorts now.

I don't have a problem with anyone using them within the year so if someone purchased for their trip in April 2009, I wouldn't care if anyone used it again in July 2009.

But new design=you get new mugs.

I'm pretty neutral about this topic myself. Much like the OP I don't condone or condemn. We don't get to WDW every year so when we do go I look forward to purchasing a mug. I really liked them when they were resort specific though.

well, I can't fill out the poll because we bought mugs for the first time on our last trip, and haven't had a chance to go back. That being said, the mugs have changed, so no, I wouldn't bring them back since they don't sell them anymore. And if they hadn't changed, we would be using the dining plan so we probably wouldn't use mugs.

The all time kicker was the time I saw a family fill a gallon milk jug with sprite.

Hubs would always want to reuse but I refuse

I miss the hotel different mugs. they were good reminders of vacations

I always take the disney mugs on cruises. those glasses are too small

I always thought they changed these each year. So unless you are going multiple times in one year, it wouldn't work, right? I guess if you you are lucky enough to be going multiple times in one year, you should have enough $$$ to buy a new cup each time! LOL

But seriously, I plan on buying a new one when we go again this year. I think they are nice little souvenirs and you easily get your moneys worth if you are there a week! :)

Was looking for thread on how much the mugs cost...anyone here know? We want to get them for our upcoming trip, just wondering how much?
Thanks!

Yes, but not out of cheapskateness, or some desire to get one over on Disney.

We travel as a party of 6, and on the next trip we'll have the QSDP for 4 people - twice (split stay, one room is getting the dining plan for 2 reservations) which gives us 8 mugs. The problem is that the new mugs only come in 3 colors, which makes it difficult to tell which mug is who's.

Having more mugs doesn't improve the situation, since they all look alike. Sharpie wears off, I know from experience. And there's nothing like expecting cool ice water and getting my hot black coffee instead. So I'll bring down my mug from last year, which is noticeably different. I'd feel bad about it, but 1) we're going to have mugs coming out our ears and 2) three of us only drink water anyway.
