I'll have a mug on my next trip but I really don't want to lug it around the parks all day. Will it be a problem for me to fill disposable cups to take? Would my receipt work for "proof of mug"?

Well, you can't actually fill a disposable cup without buying it.

The machines don't work without the RFID chip in the cups and mugs.

Unless something has changed since September the coffee and tea aren't RFID enabled.

This is correct. I've also wondered if I could get my coffee in a different container even though I bought a mug. Really I think coffee should be complimentary like most other civilized hotels but thats another discussion.

while yes the coffee and tea does not work on the chip (that may change??) the rule is you can refill your mug not another cup. fill your mug poor it into a cup outside the location and you are fine... Receipt or not... how do they know the mug belongs to you.. You could buy one for a family of 10 and all walk in and fill a cup with coffee.. This is not meant to be offensive but this is the reason Disney has went to Chip for drinks... there are people who would refill any cup or mug they have for free..
last year we had mugs went to DTD and bought cookies at earl of sandwich... My 10 YO helped himself to a refill at EOS with his mug.. I explained why he can not... we also buy lunch and drinks at EOS at least once a trip so he knew where it was and he could refill drinks (we bought there the part he did not understand)... Other people see it and get ideas as no one said anything.. in the end if people do it EOS like Disney raises the price of drinks uses chip cups like Disney and we all pay more the next visit.

there are coffee makers in the Moderate and Deluxe resorts, so it is complimentary unless you are staying at a Value resort

Of course but I would prefer not to mess with a coffee maker. I always use a mug at my Disney hotel so no big deal but I appreciate hotels that provide gratis coffee and to go cups in the lobby.

Without getting into the disposable container discussion, I just rinsed my mug and put some paper towels in it to keep it from dripping.

Before the RFID chips, I did use a disposable cup for my morning coffee, and left my mug in the room. After the chip thing I figured that Disney cared how we used the machines, so I would comply. I always had the mug, and bought them before they were included in the DDP, so I did not feel guilty that I didn't put coffee in my mug, but now...no.

Thanks, I guess what'd really would like to know is the official policy. I think I'll just ask when I get there. Definitely don't want to set off any DIS style moralizing on the issue.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall disposable cups available at the drink stations. Just lids. I thought you had to obtain a cup from the cashier. (I always use my mug, so maybe I just didn't pay attention.) If you have to ask the cashier for a cup -- maybe you can show the receipt and request a cup, but they have no way of knowing that you didn't give the refillable mug to someone else and now you want another (disposable) cup to use for free. We just rinse out the mug, stuff it with a papertowel or napkin to prevent drips, and hang it from a carabiner or put them in our daypack. We also use it for ice water in the parks.

Enjoy your vacation!

This is so often the real answer to many questions here. "Can i park here?" "Can i split a meal? " etc. Ask politely and I have found that most of the time at WDW they try to make you happy one way or another.

Be aware that some bus drivers will not allow other mugs with lids onto the park buses. Not sure if you plan on sipping on the way, but I have seen people told to pour out their coffee that didn't have the official mug/lid combo. Technically there is no eating or drinking on the buses, though they usually look the other way as long as your drink has a lid.

Many "nice" hotels don't offer free coffee. And many that do offer stuff that is not really worth drinking.

Except in-room coffee- last we tried it- doesn't include milk.

Then again, last I tried them - the refillable mugs don't either. the stuff that they offer for the coffee was/is fake creamer.

We always end up with dilemma of how to get actual milk for our coffee.

I'm also with OP, that I hate lugging around a stupid mug. I also think it is kind of funny the lack of proper washing/sanitizing that goes with using them for a week. Yuck!

Saw a solution to this once. Have used it many times when traveling by plane. Get a cellulose sponge. Pour dish washing soap over it. Let it soak in and dry for a day or two. Cut the now dried soapy sponge into 6 or 8 pieces. Put these in a ziplock sandwich bag. You can take them on the plane. Use one per day to clean your mugs and throw out.

We bought a package of Bounty paper towels that have the Dawn dishwashing soap imbeded in them. Cut a bunch of them in half and put them in a Ziploc. They are great for using to wash the mug at the mug wash station or in the hotel room.
