Refillable mug--worth it?

Do you think it is worth it to purchase a refillable mug? We are on the DDP, but do not get mugs with our plan. We have ordered a case of water, a 6 pack of pop (for DH), and a couple packs of juice boxes to have in our room/take with us to the parks. I don't know how often we will eat at the food court. Probably at least 2-3 times for breakfast, not sure that we will be there for any other meals. I drink coffee, but I've heard the coffee at the food courts is TERRIBLE, so I probably won't be getting that.

I think I"m probably just being a cheapskate and overthinking it. Even if I only get three refills for the entire week, I would probably come out ahead (between the cost of the drinks and the mug as a souvenir.)

Did anyone buy the mug and wish they hadn't, though?

Thanks.

Since you are staying at POFQ, it may be worth it. The buildings are close to the food court so it is does not take much time to head to the food court for refills. The coffee is definitely not worth getting a mug for. The coffee in the room was much better than at the food court. If that is what you are getting the mug for, skip it. Another option would be to get one mug (always a good souvenir) and if you use it a bunch over the first day or two get the rest of the family a mug. That's what we did for our recent trip at POR. Ended up with only one mug (not 6 for the entire family).

We were just down there on DDP for a week. We bought the mugs and got SO much use out of them. We'd stop by before breakfast, after breakfast, on the way home from a park and fill up on iced tea, coffee, soda, powerade. At night I got hot tea. We used them a lot - even when we weren't eating at Captain Cook's. We filled them up and drank while waiting for Kona Cafe. Filled them up and got on the monorail to check out the other monorail resorts. I'd say go for it! Have a great trip.

For use I believe the mugs are worth the price, but it also depends on the length of your stay.

We stay 7 nights - 8 days.

If I only bought one coffee a day that is 8 X $2.09 = $16.72 per person
If I have one ice tea or soda a day that is 8 X $2.19 = $17.52 per person

At a minimal I have one coffee and one ice tea a day that is $34.24

The mug was $13.49 plus tax.

Yes it is worth it to us. :thumbsup2

We are also on the DDP and we are definitely not buying them. My four year old only drinks 100% real juice, water and milk and you can't get milk or juice with the mugs. None of us are huge soda drinkers and we do not drink powerade. We will have a fridge in our room and will store water, milk, juice and some diet soda and take water to the park with us and get ice water from the QS restaurants as needed. My oldest daughter and I like to use Mio to flavor water. We will brew our own coffee (a brand we love) in the mornings and keep cream in the fridge. My oldest daughter likes iced tea and I know she will order that at meals. Four mugs for us would cost around $60 which is way more than we will spend on the drinks we are keeping in the room. We don't like to drink out of plastic mugs at home so the fact that we get to keep them is not a draw for us either.

I would wait to see where your rooms are (specifically how close they are to the food court) and how much time you will be spending at the pool (it's nice to have free refills if you are going to be at the pool everyday). I think those two factors should influence your decision once you are there. Have fun!

We just buy one and use it for WATER only really, at the pool. I make coffee in the room, and we don't really drink soda. If you drink a lot of drinks like coke, sprite, powerade, Disney's coffee throughout the day then I'd say it's worth it.

Why arent they included in your dining plan? Thought they were on all the plans now?? :confused3

I was there with my 12 year old son and I purchased mugs for both of us. I would say they were definitely worth it. We used them a lot the first day when we were at the resort often during the day. We filled them every morning and every night going to and coming from the parks, and also filled them whenever we were there in the afternoon. We filled them when we were eating at or near other resorts also.

For us it is totally worth it as DH is a big coffee drink and I live and breath on ice tea. I would estimate that we each fill our mugs 6 or more times a day, from breakfast, breaks in the afternoon and a nightcap before heading to the room

I think the mugs are definately worth it if you drink fountain drinks.
My kids were always refilling them.
Wish they were included in DDP when we were there.

It depends on if you are big soda drinkers or not. Our family of three DH, DS age 2 1/2 and myself will probably only buy 1 but we will get our $ worth out of it

I got so much use out of my mug and I didn't have one sip of soda. I used it for both iced and hot tea.

Unless it comes free on the Dining Plan, its not worth it to me. They are too small, even though I am drinking out of one right now here at home:lmao:

Just letting the OP know that during my most recent trip to WDW which was in August 2011 and September 2011, the mugs went up in price from $13.99 to $14.49 + tax.

I just got home from a 12 day stay and I can confirm that mugs are now $14.49 plus tax. Also, hot beverages are now $2.39 plus tax and cold beverages are higher than that....I think $2.69 plus tax.

So one drink a day over a 7 day stay will cover the cost.

We love getting the mugs....we spend at least 2 or 3 days at the pool all day so we end up refilling our mugs 3-4 times alone just while at the pool.

For us it all hinges on where we're staying. At Pop our mugs got a ton of use because the food court was close to our room and on the way to/from the buses. At CBR we hardly used them because no one wanted to trek all the way to the food court for refills. At POFQ I think they'd likely be good to have, because the food court is convenient to both the bus stop and the pool so you're going to be in the area frequently and can get drinks without a special trip.

When we're on a plan that doesn't include mugs we don't buy them for everyone - one for my tea and one for DH's coffee is enough. There just aren't good choices for the mug refills for kids, so if we're eating at our resort food court we'll get juice or milk as our beverages with our meals and let the kids have those, while DH & I use the mugs for our drinks.

We love the refillable mugs and have a collection at home from our many trips. While we don't like to carry the mug to the park and back, we will use it at breakfast to get coffee and at the end of the day to get a late night soft drink - also if we break during the day we fill up with powerade or sodas. We also love to use these at home - very handy for our morning coffee on the way to work. Kids like them because they have lids. For us it's a must to have and worth the price!
