Okay - I am NOT a pop junkie, but my DH is...

I had originally planned to try to take some canned pop onboard, but am beginning to see the logic in getting the refillable mugs - expensive though they may be.

How much pop per day (in DCL price/terms) does one have to drink to equal the $5 per day charge for the mug?

What can you get in your mug? (I don't drink a lot of pop - but do like iced tea, coffee, lemonade, club soda, etc.)

Coke or Pepsi products? (I'm guessing Coke, since that's what's at WDW.)

Are there servers who circulate asking if you want a drink, or do you go to restaurants to get a refill?

Thanks!

Ala Carte' soda will cost you $1.50 each plus an automatic gratuity of 15%. If you will drink more than 3 soda's per day -- then the mug is a good value. The mug can be filled with 'fountain soda's' - yes, coke products. To refill the mugs, you go to any bar or eating establishment that sells soda and ask to have your mug filled.

The beverage station on deck#9 has 'free' coffee 24 hours. You may also want to make your own iced tea using the various flavored teas/hot water/ ice at the beverage station. Coffee and Tea is also available from room service at no charge 24 hours per day.

Does anyone know if they have added Barq's root beer to their soft drink choices on the Magic? Barq's is a Coke product but they did not have it on our other cruises. Thanks.

Does anyone know if they have caffeine free coke there?? If I have caffeine my heart starts throwing in extra beats so the cardio dr advised me to keep clear of anything with caffeine!

They do have caffeine free coke available in 'cans' but not fountain soda. Therefore, it is not valid with the refillable mug plan -- but can be purchased seperately.
:)

I drink root beer because it is caffeine free. Root beer is easier to find most places that caffeine free Pepsi. Asking my question again, do they have Barq's root beer on tap?

Anyone ever get just one for the family? I may want an occasional soda but if Im drinking rum and pineapple I dont think I would get my use out of my own mug. Same with DH.
I never once had an extra soda on my first cruise with NCL.

Sorry, I am not sure about the Root Beer.

'Sharing' mugs.....
We purchased 2 mugs for our kids use --- BUT, hubby and I did take the mugs a couple of times when the kids weren't using them, and had a soda or two.
:)

I bought my two daughters a mug each on last summer's cruise. They hated carrying the things around and used it only once. I don't drink soda so it was a waste. Then we had no room in the suitcases for them so left the mugs on the ship.

We have cruised Carnival in the past and they sell soda cards. It was so much more convenient, just punched a hole in them and the kids wore them on their lanyard with the room key. Carnival definitely lost money on those soda cards. On this summer's Disney cruise, I'm buying one mug and making them share!!!

When we sailed on the Magic last April Root Beer wasn't available as I asked for it at dinner. I was getting very tired of Coke by the end of the trip.

We bought mugs for each of our four kids (4-12) on the January Magic and it was the biggest mistake we made on that trip. They had 3 cokes a piece all week for a price of $140 total. Unless you are a bottomless pop drinker you might want to really think this one out. You can always go through topsiders from morning to mid afternoon and go in and get a drink (plus dessert). You spend so much time eating so you are full all the time that you don't think too much about being thirsty. Now if they would've had a deal on cheaper refills for coladas or rum punch drinks we definitely would've purchased the mugs.
Of course maybe if you are only buying for 1-2 kids there isn't so much to lose.

Have fun!

There were 6 of us on our cruise last Oct. we all had mugs. My DH drinks lots of soda. His was always filled. The kids took their's with them to the teen's common grounds every night. I was getting tea in mine every morning. Unfortunetly, there was not a good cup of tea to be had on the cruise. I think it's the water!
Anyway, I think it was worth the money for us & I love the memories every time I use the mug now!

We are cruising the 4 night cruise, what are the price on the mugs? I have heard alot of comments on how awful the water is on the cruise. Should we bring are own bottled water?:pinkbounc

The cost of the mugs on a 4 night is $20 a piece. I thought the water at the station on Deck 9 was great, and drank water with most of my meals. I didn't notice any problem with taste. Of course, at home, I drink tap water, so maybe my taste buds aren't too sophisticated:rolleyes: I brought a 6 pack of bottled water for the cooler, which we carried with us on excursions, etc. Still came back with 1 unopened bottle.

The mugs are priced on a per day basis -- but must be purchased for the entire duration of your cruise. They are not reusable on returning cruises like at the world -- as per official word from DCL.

So prices are:
3 day $15
4 day $20
7 day $35

Is it a good value?? They cost $1.50 each plus an automatic gratuity of 15%. So, if you think you will drink more than 3 soda's per day -- then it just may be a good value for you.

The tea onboard is not good, brewed iced tea like you'll find in the south... it's Nestea fountain swill.

The only way to get good iced tea onboard is to brew some hot tea at the Deck 9 beverage station and then pour it over ice. (Or, if you have a verandah, you could bring a pitcher to make sun tea.)

I heard there was a "drink of the day" (or something) type of mug for alcoholic drinks on the ship? Is this true and if so how much? I am not a big drinker, but since no where to drive, might be nice to try a few drinks.

When we went last year, I bought one mug for myself and 2 kids. My one daughter doesn't drink soda, and my other just drank out of mine occasionally if she was thirsty. She was in the clubs so much, that it would have been a waste to have bought her own. And, of course, you can always get free soda at meals in the dining rooms!

Thanks!! I may buy the mug, I know my dad will, but I am interested in the alcohol mugs I heard about as well.

Yes, I read somewhere about the "Drink of the Day" mugs also.
Is someone out there that can elaborate on them?
